Luis Gutierrez On Larry King
Larry King tells Congressman Luis Gutierrez "I support you completely" for leading the charge in replacing Andrew Jackson with a woman on the twenty-dollar bill.
Rep. Gutierrez proposed this switch to Congress back in May, and he’ll be on Larry King’s show PoliticKING on TUESDAY JUNE 16th to discuss his progress with the bill.
The congressman’s bill is called Put a Woman on the Twenty Act of 2015. It does not designate any particular woman, but instructs the secretary of the Treasury to convene a citizen panel to choose the woman who should replace Andrew Jackson as the face of the $20 bill.
Gutierrez tells Larry King: "We have to be reflective of our society." He's confident that "pretty soon you and I are going to take out a twenty-dollar bill and we’re going to have a woman on that twenty-dollar bill."
KING: You want to put a woman on the twenty-dollar bill?
GUTIERREZ: I do!
KING: What’s wrong with Mr. President Jackson?
GUTIERREZ: I say put, you know what, put a woman right? Because, you know, how would I say it? You believe in women’s right?
KING: Sure do.
GUTIERREZ: Then we should put a woman. I look at the dollar bill, the five, the ten, the twenty. Come on. We’ve got put a woman. We have to be reflective of our society.
KING: Who have you got in mind?
GUTIERREZ: Let me just say right now, it should be a woman. My legislation says the following: That the treasury department should get together we should look. We have a lot of wonderful women that can win. There’s a contest online. And maybe we’ll respect the general public’s opinion. But I’m telling you this is growing across this nation. And pretty soon you and I are going to take out a twenty-dollar bill and we’re going to have a woman on that twenty-dollar bill.
KING: I support you completely.
