KEVIN'S CARDS --- Varèse Sarabande Records will release The House Of Cards: Season 2 – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack as a 2 disc set digitally and on CD June 17th. The soundtrack features original score composed by Jeff Beal (Monk, Blackfish).

Award-winning composer Jeff Beal scores House Of Cards, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning original series, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. The show debuted in February of 2013 as Netflix’s first original series, unprecedentedly releasing all 13 episodes of Season One at the same time, generating worldwide attention for the bold new approach to the television model. The second season debuted in February of this year, and it was recently picked up for a third season.

House Of Cards follows House Majority Whip Frank Underwood (Spacey), a bombastic, power-hungry politician from South Carolina set on conquering Washington D.C. alongside his wife, Claire (Wright). When the President decides to pass over Frank for a presumed appointment to Secretary of State, Underwood takes matters into his own hands by using Congress, the media, and corporate boosters as pawns in exacting revenge on those who betrayed him. Season 2 finds him installed as Vice President.

“The direction I was inspired to follow from watching the show, was to approach the project cinematic as opposed to traditional serialized television,” explained Beal.

Pink Floyd & Sid Barrett Story

BARRETT'S BACK --- Eagle Rock has released of The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story on 2DVD and Digital Video. Originally made in 2001, this documentary, presented in Dolby Digital Stereo, is now being released with additional bonus material.

The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story explores the tragic, yet celebratory life of the late Syd Barrett, lead guitarist and prominent songwriter of early Pink Floyd. With contributions from all members of Floyd, as well as managers, friends, and others close to Syd, the documentary traverses the tale of this enigmatic rock legend, from his intelligent, thought-provoking songwriting and indelible stamp on the psychedelic music genre, to his 1968 departure from the band, when his increasingly erratic behavior made his continued participation in the band impossible.

This 2DVD set also includes the additional interview, Roger Waters On Syd Barrett, and a second disc with bonus uncut interviews with Floyd-members Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright.

Pink Floyd was revolutionary, pushing popular music into new cerebral dimensions, and Barrett was an integral part of the band’s sound and lyrics. A charismatic cult figure with a flair for eccentricity, he crafted such unique hits as “See Emily Play” and “Arnold Layne,” as well as album tracks such as “Bike” and “Astronomy Domine.”

His use of dissonance, feedback, and distortion in his guitar playing has inspired generations of musicians. After leaving Floyd, he recorded two solo albums before vanishing from music altogether, retiring to his English hometown of Cambridge. Fans and reporters continued to travel there to seek out the reclusive Barrett until his death in 2006, at the age of 60.

If you're a Floyd-fan … this is essential.

ZEP NEWS --- Early projections say that the reissues of Led Zeppelin's first three albums in deluxe editions are most likely headed toward top ten debuts in the U. S. next week.

On Wednesday, the Official Chart Company in the U. K. reported that, at the half-week mark, the same is holding true in Britain. At this point, Led Zeppelin I is at number 4, Led Zeppelin III is at number six and Led Zeppelin II is at number 7.

If the positions hold, the band's first album will actually better the original release in 1969 which only got to number 6. II and III were both number 1 albums.
