FANTASTIC VOYAGE --- Fox is fast-tracking a project that has long been a favorite jewel in Hollywood: Fantastic Voyage. Now on board is Man Of Steel and Dark Knight trilogy-vet David Goyer, who will write a new treatment of Fantastic Voyage . The 1966 camp classic followed a group of scientists who are reduced to microscopic size inside a submarine and injected into the body of a sick colleague.

The Cold War-era pic starred Steven Welch, Raquel Welch and Donald Pleasance. Viewers who saw the original version, myself included, loved the rather cheesy-effects of a futuristic ship traveling through the human body and battling such things as antibodies and the heart. Also, seeing Raquel Welch in a form-fitting space suit was rather awesome and revolutionary at the time.

Honestly, I can't see it being a viable, commercial entry in today’s seemingly endless sequel fanfare … but, am willing to without judgment. Goyer is an inspired choice and if nothing else, his new take on it was be fascinating.

BELLE TELLS --- Varèse Sarabande Records will release the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD, May 13, 2014. The soundtrack features original score composed by Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Emma). Academy Award winner Portman (Emma) delivers one of her most sumptuous scores for this period story of illicit love, Belle.

“The score needed to support many different emotions within the story. At times it needed strong bold themes, at others, subtle almost ‘holding’ an atmosphere or feeling.” said Portman. “It is a very beautiful film with a fascinating story – both wonderful ingredients for a composer to work with!”

“Using all the elements of the film, she came up with something really different,” said director Amma Asante of Portman. “At times, it absolutely brought tears to my eyes.”

Portman was born in west Sussex, England. She began composing at the age of 14 and read music at Oxford University. While there, she became interested in writing music for student films and theatre productions. She gained experience writing music for drama in BBC and Channel 4 films such as Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, director Mike Leigh's Four Days In July and Jim Henson's Storyteller series.

SPIDEY XXX --- Popular website CraveOnline.com says Spider Man XXX 2 (via Vivid Video) sure looks amazing. Starring Dani Daniels, Sarah Shevon and Nicki Hunter, this is Vivid’s follow-up to their Captain America XXX and Thor XXX rated films, directed by Axel Braun, an industry leader in the fight for bigger and better porn and whose parodies just keeps churning out one superhero XXX parody after another.

“I just love Spidey, and I honestly believe that in my adult parody Xander Corvus portrays him better than any of the mainstream actors who have worn the webbed costume on screen” says Braun, who won four consecutive AVN Director of the Year awards and was just inducted in the XRCO Hall of Fame. “And speaking of the costume, I had a new one made for this movie, and it looks amazing!”

The Spider-Man XXX 2 adult parody begins in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen where a streetwalker drags a customer into an alley to earn a little extra cash, but they're interrupted by a trio with knives. With Spider-Man temporarily in Las Vegas, it’s up to Daredevil to save the day. Meanwhile, the sexual adventures that Spidey has in Sin City involve protecting the Cosmic Cube from an AIM splinter cell; saving a busload of Elvis impersonators from a hijacking; and, trying to deal with the arrogant, overly theatrical and mind-controlling Mysterio. Luckily, our favorite wall-crawler gets some erotic help from Arachne and Power Woman…in more ways than one.

And, no, there’s no Stan Lee-cameo in this one!

CLOSING NOTES --- Guess who’s the new voice of Amtrak? Radio-veteran Zach Martin. Martin’s worked at the legendary Q 104.3, working with the late-great Scott Muni and now is at WFAN. Zach’s a great resource in the radio field and his expertise is truly remarkable. Congratulations! More with him next column …
