FOUR LITTLE GIRLS READING @ KENNEDY CENTER
Phylicia Rashad
In remembrance of the 50th anniversary of the Birmingham bombing, which killed four little girls and galvanized a nation to push forward on Civil Rights, Howard University has joined forces with the Kennedy Center and others to present a free, staged reading of the play FOUR LITTLE GIRLS: Birmingham 1963, directed by Howard University alumna Phylicia Rashad this Sunday. The event presents the perfect opportunity to take a look at how Howard University is creating the next generation of Black Hollywood and artists of longevity.
Besides Ms. Rashad, her sister Debbie Allen, Lynn Whitfield and Roberta Flack, who have continued to be involved in some of the nation’s most buzzed-about artistic projects, Howard has contributed significantly to the new guard of Black artists. Breakout star Chadwick Boseman, acclaimed for his role as Jackie Robinson in the motion picture 42—recently announced to star in the biopic of James Brown—is a proud Howard alumnus. Others who have attended the esteemed institution include John Legend, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Taraji P. Henson, Anthony Anderson, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Marlon Wayans, Isaiah Washington, Laz Alonso, Lance Gross, Wendy Davis, La La Anthony, Carl Anthony Payne II and Frenchie Davis. The event will take place on September 15, 2013 in the Family Theater
