The Drivers Seat

Since first opening its doors in 1960, The Driver’s Seat, a true “Main Street” bar and restaurant has been a favorite of Hamptons locals and visitors alike, earning it the nickname, “Southampton’s Meeting Place. The popular eatery – now owned by restaurateur Irma Herzog – offers a traditional American menu of fresh, flavorful fare and a casual, friendly atmosphere that embodies the effortless and breezy style of the East End. With its sunlit, airy interior bar and dining rooms, outdoor patio and backyard bar, The Driver’s Seat is the perfect choice for afternoon drinks and dining during the summer season.

With Executive Chef Hortensia Martinez at the wheel, guests will find classic summer favorites including The Driver’s Seat’s Famous Baked Clam Casserole (chopped clams with a house blend of seasonings, baked in a casserole until crispy), Lobster Roll sandwiches (succulent lobster salad in a toasted New England style roll, served with a side salad), The Driver’s Seat’s award-winning Eight Ounce Burger (signature burger made from freshly ground 100% Grade-A beef, served on a toasted roll with lettuce, tomato, a pickle and choice of fries or coleslaw), Stuffed Flounder (two fresh, local flounder fillets, stuffed with crabmeat, shrimp and scallops, then grilled to perfection), Roasted Long Island Duck (half a tender, roasted Long Island duck, topped with orange-ginger sauce and served with rice and vegetables) and Irma’s Fajitas (choice of tequila marinated steak, chicken or shrimp fajitas, sautéed with onions and peppers on a sizzling pan, served with Mexican-style rice, refried black beans, flour tortillas and salsa).

A charming neighborhood bistro, The Driver’s Seat has a relaxed, contemporary style with traditional roots that create an ideal environment for socializing throughout the year. Inside, The Driver’s Seat features a large, welcoming oak bar, Tiffany-style hanging lamps, and the restaurant’s original dark wood paneling. Late afternoon sunlight filters through blue stained glass windows that wrap around the ceiling of The Driver’s Seat’s rear dining room, creating an ambiance that reminds guests that they are at the beach. At the front of the restaurant, a wall of glass doors opens up to a spacious patio that is perfect for both al fresco dining and people watching. To the rear of the restaurant, guests will find one of The Driver’s Seat’s most popular summertime features: a spacious, canopied backyard bar and a second outdoor dining area with a picturesque adjoining garden.

The Driver’s Seat is open seven days a week throughout the year, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday through Friday, guests can take advantage of The Driver’s Seat’s Happy Hour specials at both the restaurant’s interior and backyard bars between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
