STARS CELEBRATE OPENING OF EXPO1: NEW YORK

Marisa Tomei

Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Franco, Marisa Tomei, and Peter Sarsgaard were among celebs at MoMA PS1 and VOLKSWAGEN Dinner and Party to Celebrate the Opening of EXPO1 in New York, Saturday May 11, 2013 at the MoMA. The party came on the heels of the announcement that VW has committed to another two years of support for MoMA and MoMA PS1 and to celebrate the Opening of EXPO1: New York.

No specifics on what is planned yet for the next round of support, but the last two were highlighted with the installations of the VW Dome 1 at MoMA PS1 and 2 in the Rockaways following Hurricane Sandy for arts and enrichment as well as the 8 Kraftwerks performances at MoMA last spring.

The dinner was hosted at MoMA NYC and began with cocktails in the sculpture garden then moved into the gallery for dinner followed by a garden after party where DJ Four Tet spun.

The menu, prepared by Oliver Cheng, included:

-Seared sea scallops with truffled corn puree
-Beef tenderloin with succotash, pea tendrils, romesco
-Guanja chocolate salted mousse dome,
caramelized popcorn, passion fruit gel

In addition to a performance by the Brittish interpretive artist Mileece, Martha Wainwright surpised guests with an impromptu performance as well, introduced by James Franco.

"Mileece, a unique multimedia and sonic artist who spotlights ecology through her aesthetic use of technology. For this special performance, Mileece will present her signature style of "live generative music" integrating traditional elements (a live cello and her harmonious voice) with "aesthetic sonification," a real-time synthesis of sounds from bio-electric emissions of plants and handmade gestural instruments."
