On his marriage, struggling with infertility and miscarriages, and how his life changed when his adopted son was born.

KC: “You know, you’ve actually talked very openly about the fact that you and Deb had some fertility issues the, the children are adopted—and uh, that I think people don’t realize what an excruciating, difficult time that is when you’re trying to have a child and and you’re having a lot of difficulty.”

HJ: “It is. You know it’s interesting, until you go through it, you realize it’s not talked about a lot and by the way to be clear, Deb and I always wanted to adopt. So, that was always in our plan. Uhh, we didn’t know where in the process that would happen but uhh biologically obviously we tried and it was, uhh, not happening for us and it is a difficult time. We did IVF and Deb had a couple of miscarriages and it was actually, I’ll never forget it the miscarriage thing is also apparently it happens to one in three pregnancies, you know. Uhh, but it’s very very rarely talked about. It’s almost secretive, you know, so I hope Deb doesn’t mind me bringing it up now. But it is, it’s a good thing to talk about it. It’s more common and it is tough, uhh there’s a grieving that you have to go through. So, the moment Oscar was born, you know all the heartache just, whew, melted away, you know? And it’s uh, it’s one of the great uh—well any, you guys, many of you are parents, you guys know you can’t prepare for that moment. Nothing can prepare you nothing, you can’t even explain how incredible it is and and that avalanche of emotion that comes and how it opens up your heart, how it frustrates you, how it angers you, how everything it’s just all the sudden how alive you are as a parent.”

His best James Bond. And yes, he would like to play he famous character.

KC: “We have a question from Jay in the audience, Jay where are you? Hi Jay!”

HJ: “Ohh Jay! You had to have one of the journalism students from Columbia! Jay—”

KC: “What’s your question?”

HJ: “Easy! Softballs, nice easy ones!”

Jay: “So there was once talk that you might play James Bond. Is that still a possibility in the future?”

HJ: “Ahhh Yeah, Jay I’ll clear something up… I was the one who started the talk, just so you know—about 20 years ago, no one was listening! Umm look, No, Daniel I think he’s a great mate of mine and that’s why I said—“

KC: “You guys were in a Broadway show together!”

HJ: “Yeah! As long as Daniel wants it, it’s his. But uhh, there’s not an actor on the planet that doesn’t somewhere in their mind think, ‘I could play James Bond.’”

KC: “Can you do—can you say, ‘Bond, James Bond’?”

HJ: “Sure. To?”

KC: “Anyone.”

HJ: “I’m looking to the camera. Bond… James Bond.”
