Volkswagen's "The Bark Side"

Volkswagen’s “The Bark Side” and “The Dog Strikes Back” are nominated for Best Commercial for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards, being aired LIVE Sunday, September 23 at 7pm EST on ABC.

“The Dog Strikes Back” featured the all-new 2012 Beetle, an iconic vehicle redesigned for only the second time in its history. “The Dog Strikes Back” taps into the unprecedented momentum surrounding last year’s “The Force” by carrying over the Star Wars theme, while also adding a whole new dimension with a new inspirational central character – Bolt. The transformation of Bolt the dog from overweight to fit mirrors the evolution of the all-new Beetle into a faster, leaner machine. On a broader level, it also reflects the reemergence of Volkswagen into American mainstream culture. The surprise ending incorporates the Star Wars theme as a nod to Volkswagen’s loyal fans, and also shows a sense of humor about the competitiveness of Superbowl commercials.
