BOXING RETURNS AGAIN TO ATLANTIC CITY

The Tropicana

On Saturday, August 27th, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing returns to the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, with an exciting six bout card, featuring the always exciting heavyweight fan-favorite, Vinny Maddalone (33-7, 24KO’s) and Atlantic City’s own, Shamone “The Truth” Alvarez (21-4, 12KO’s) in separate bouts.

“We are really looking forward to returning to the Tropicana, and putting together another great night of exciting fights,” stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and President of Star Boxing. “The Tropicana has such a great venue for boxing, and the atmosphere in the Casino, especially during the summer-time is just so electric. When you combine that electricity with the fireworks that Vinny and Shamone are sure to produce, you just know you are in for one exciting night of entertainment.”

Maddalone, a major attraction on the east coast, due to his never say die, warrior-like style, last fought at the Tropicana in March of last year, when he handed out a vicious beating to Dominque Alexander, dropping his opponent multiple times, before eventually scoring a 5th round TKO. Never in a dull fight, Maddalone has fought some of the top names in the Heavyweight division, including former undisputed heavyweight champion, Evander Holyfield and current top ten contenders, Tomasz Adamek, Dennis Boytsov and Jean-Marc Mormeck. Maddalone is scheduled to square off against “Dangerous” Damon Reed (46-16, 32KO’s) in a ten round heavyweight showdown.

The former, WBO NABO welterweight champion Alvarez also was in action at the Tropicana at the Star Boxing promoted show in March of last year. In his fight, Alvarez scored a brutal one-punch knockout over Alexis Camacho. Alvarez is set to meet the always tough and game Chris “Kid Kayo” Fernandez (19-13-1, 12KO’s) in an eight round welterweight match-up. Fernandez has been in with former world champions, Devon Alexander and Paulie Malignaggi.

All the action takes place in the Tropicana Showroom. Doors open at 7 p.m., with preliminaries beginning at 7:30 p.m. and the first bout starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at $30, $50, $100 and $200 and are on sale now through Ticketmaster. Tickets will also be available at the Tropicana Box Office, subject to availability.

TO CATCH A NBC REPORTER CHRIS HANSEN

Chris Hansen

HERE is the footage everyone’s been waiting for according to The National Enquirer. They are billing this as, WORLD EXCLUSIVE spy video shot by NATIONAL ENQUIRER investigators of CHRIS HANSEN of “To Catch a Predator” fame, CAUGHT cheating!

The blockbuster video footage of NBC’s “Dateline” investigative reporter, Hansen, and blonde beauty, KRISTYN CADDELL, a news anchor at a local NBC affiliate, WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida, was shot June 24, at 7:30 PM.

The clandestine couple arrived at the Ritz-Carlton’s Angle restaurant in Palm Beach where they “enjoyed a romantic dinner”, an eyewitness told The ENQUIRER.

In the ENQUIRER’s new print edition, now on newsstands, readers will see exclusive photos showing how the couple spent the rest of the night together -- until he left town the following morning.

For nearly four months, sources say, the handsome father of two has been allegedly cheating on his wife with 30-year-old Kristyn.

Hansen, 51, and his wife, Mary, 53, live together in Connecticut and have two sons, but that didn’t stop the “To Catch a Predator” star from being caught in his own web of deceit, say sources.

Editors Note: This story was sent to us from The National Enquirer Public Relations. We like Chris Hansen, and from what we can see in the video, it shows two people walking into some hotel. We have not seen the print edition. If this is true, Hansen needs to just admit and says he's sorry and deal with this with his family. If he denies, the media will just keep digging and digging and the whole mess will drag on. Like I say, I've met the guy a few times around NYC, and hes a nice guy. My radio host friends from Maryland love him. And I have seen nothing to show Hansen as guilty, so everyone keep a open mind till the fat lady sings!

ICON BETTY WHITE IN BATTLE OF THE BANDS

Hot In Cleveland gets even hotter. On the July 6th episode, Melanie decides to form a band with her friends and compete in a local Battle of the Bands for her column in Woman’s Day. Joy takes it more seriously than the others, catching the attention of band rival Rick (returning guest star Wayne Knight), who convinces Joy her childhood dream of being a rock star could actually be a reality. Classic Betty White, playing the drums!

HOLLYWOOD SUMMER IS OFFICIALLY OVER

Steven Spielberg

SUMMER … IS IT OVER? --- As far as Hollywood is concerned; your summer is officially over. With Transformers 3 opening Friday; Larry Crowne tomorrow … and, what might be the surprise hit of this summer Horrible Bosses, next week, followed quickly by the final Harry Potter (which will almost positively be the hit of the summer!) … that's about it for the summer of 2011. Me … I'm still waiting to see X Men: First Class and Super 8! Last night, trailers were released for two of the hoped-for Xmas hits: Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol and Steven Spielberg's Warhorse; his filmed presentation of the current Broadway-hit at Lincoln Center. Me, I've always liked Cruise. Sure, he gets more than his fair share of flak … but, I think in his attempt to diffuse any such thing from happening; actually draws more fire. I hear he is nothing but professional and prepared when working on a movie and at the end of the day, you can't ask for more than that. I liked him the most in War of The Worlds; Rain Man; Vanilla Sky and Minority Report; not so much in The Last Samurai and Far And Away. Let's face it; he was gold in Tropic Thunder; though the joke was played out a bit too long in the media. In the trailer it was great to see him working alongside Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton and the always terrific Tom Wilkinson. And, though there was a tad too much running about and dodging the odd car crash … it was just the first trailer after all. Warhorse on the other hand, was all-Spielberg-ian; moody, atmospheric and totally captivating. The Lincoln Center-production didn't blow me away (though it had its moments), but the trailer had me in seconds. I predict this will be a must-see this holiday season.

FORGOTTEN HITS? --- There is a site called Forgotten Hits, presided over by one Kent Kotal, that is a must-read for lovers of the hits and artists of yesteryear. Although, that said … the one rather provocative questioner that keeps coming up on their reader-feedback is what exactly is an oldie? Sure, Freddy Cannon's “Palisades Park” (which is featured in the current X Man: First Class movie-which has grossed $133 million worldwide and has somewhat rejuvenated his career) is an oldie (from May 1962) but, if you liked a Steely Dan song in college and occasionally listen to Yes and Emerson, Lake and Palmer … does that qualify you as rather dodgy, oldies-devotee? With the amount of legacy bands touring this summer … it does certainly raise the question of what really is an oldie … not too mention being an oldies fan. I was turned onto this site by radio-guru Tom Cuddy several years back and have myself, become a major fan. A big plus in my book, is the consistently good feedback from the readers. They may not be buying record anymore, but their memory of history is astounding, and, Kent's accuracy and writings are sensational. Check it out here....

Joe Piscopo As Frank Sinatra

CALLING JOE! --- This is no joke: After more than 25 years as a popular Atlantic City headline attraction, Joe Piscopo, is taking it to the next level and taking up residence at the new Resorts Casino Hotel with the opening of his very own nightclub, Club Piscopo. Though you may remember the comedian from his Saturday Night Live shenanigans with Eddie Murphy, the multi-talented comedian and actor has partnered with Resorts to create a new kind of AC club with an old-school show biz vibe that premieres Thursday, July 1 for its 4th of July Grand Opening Weekend. Club Piscopo will feature a variety of acts, comedians and bands that will entertain audiences every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer. The format will include regular appearances by Piscopo and other well-known entertainers, including jazz artists, musicians, and up-and-coming comedians in an intimate setting. “This is going to be a hang place, where people can come and see an eclectic mix of entertainment. I've always wanted to open a place of my own in AC.” This weekend, he'll be joined by comedian Jeff Norris and a 10-piece swing band. Me, I've always loved him doing his Sinatra-shtick. Funny man ... always has ... good luck Joe! I hope he kills!

BE JEALOUS - - - Looking forward to this evening's Be Jealous photographic event at The Keeley Gallery in Lower Manhattan at Gallery 151. In this body of new work, Ryan Keeley collaborates with one of today’s best up and coming fashion photographer, Richard Guaty. The two combine forces to create a series of provocative images that cross the lines between fashion photography, abstract expressionism, and experimental printing. Each piece contains many layers of hand distressed photo images that are blended between thick compounds of acrylics and enamels. Each layer contains countless possibilities that stand out as beautiful distractions. One can become lost in the beauty of each model shot by Guaty and become fascinated with Keeley's wildly experimental printing methods and aggressive additions to each photo. The two artists working together take post production of photos to a new level by elevating the final product into collectible pieces of fine art. Should be terrific!

EXPLORER JOHAN ERNST NILSON POLE TO POLE

Johan Ernst Nilson

Johan Ernst Nilson, a Swedish explorer known for his unparalleled Climate Neutral travels, commenced his journey from the northernmost point to the southernmost point of the earth on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. The expedition, titled Climate Neutral | Pole2Pole, marked the anniversary of American Explorer Robert E. Peary’s expedition to the North Pole, as well as the history-making voyage of Norwegian Explorer Roald Amundsen, who was the first explorer to reach the South Pole in 1911.

Johan started the voyage by walking more than 124 miles on the Arctic ice of the North Pole to the Svalbard Archipelago in Greenland. Johan was then scheduled to navigate across the Arctic Ocean to Ottawa, Canada, however, less than three months into his journey, the explorer was forced to change route towards Vancouver, Canada!

Due to the ice drift and harsh climate, Johan and his team has been forced to compensate by increasing their daily work/travel regiment to twelve hours a days! With the onset of spring, temperatures have risen to approximately -10 degrees Celsius, causing a lack of ice to the North of Greenland. With limited rations, the Pole2Pole team has been advised to travel towards Vancouver, Canada, which they intend to reach on Sunday, July 3, 2011. Johan will then travel to New York City, USA on Tuesday, July 5th, 2011 to attended a meeting with The Clinton Foundation on a discuss regarding environmental awareness. He will then fly back to Vancouver, Canada on Saturday, July 9th, 2011 to continue his expedition along the west coast!

This is not the first obstacle/setback the team has encountered during the past few weeks. Johan was treated for frost-bite, a recurring problem he faced during his 2008 Seven Summits journey. The explorer also fell into the Arctic Ice! While trying to keep afloat as his skis and boots weighed him down, Johan was eventually dragged out of the frozen water by co-explorer Harald Kippenes. The activist was also chased by a grizzly bear while cycling in Canada—view attack here!

Johan will continue cycling for six months through North and South America, passing through major cities—such as Mexico City, Mexico and Santiago, Chile—to the Amazon Jungle before arriving in Patagonia. Finally, he awaits a two month journey in Antarctica on skis and a parafoil, to the South Pole. The expected duration of Climate Neutral | Pole2Pole—one year!

Teaming up with iconic brands such as Audi—who built equipment for the explorer including skis, kites, bikes and a sled, as well as named him a Brand Ambassador, a title shared by Justin Timberlake—and ZENITH Watches, Johan is known globally as The Environmental Explorer, and has accomplished some 30 excursions across 100 countries.

Fans around the world are invited to track Johan’s travels, as he blogs and tweets his way across the globe at www.pole2pole.net.

ABOUT JOHAN ERNST NILSON:

Along with his adventures, Johan seeks to give back to the community, with charitable involvements as being an Ambassador for International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), MinStoraDag and Swedish PostcodeLottery, Honorary Goodwill Ambassador, Nepal and is a member of The Explorers Club, just to name a few. In between travels, Johan holds speaking engagements from motivational speeches to lectures on eco-friendly awareness. He has also published a photobook titled ‘Seven Summits – The Photobook,’ featuring images from his Seven Summits journey.

Johan’s famed project to date includes his 2008 Seven Summits journey, in which he reached the summits of the highest mountains on each of the seven continents, including Mount Everest, Mount McKinley and the Vinson Massif. With his first expedition being a result of a wager in 1994 (biking from Stockholm to Morocco in 52 days), Johan has continuously sought out more ambitious projects.

MADONNA TO BE IMMORTALIZED IN COMIC BOOK

****
THE HAMPTONS GOSSIP

Story By: Edward Callaghan
****

Madonna

Once upon a time we all knew her as the Material Girl, but now, the world over knows her as Madonna, a one-woman juggernaut. Before there was Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera or Britney, there was Madonna. She's been a pop sensation, actress, writer, activist, mother, and director. She's been everything. It's a Madonna world, and we're all living in it - especially if you are lucky enough to be her neighbor in Bridgehampton. Now, she will be immortalized forever with her very own comic book !

Female Force: Madonna , a one-shot issue from Bluewater Productions Inc. will soon be sold in comic book shops, bookstores and online. It's the latest in a line of titles from the Vancouver, Wash.-based publisher, with previous subjects in the Female Force family of titles focusing on Hillary Rodham Clinton, Michelle Obama, Barbara Walters, Rosie O’Donnell, Sarah Palin and Margaret Thatcher among others.

****

Tony Bennett

Speaking of Madonna, her attorney music industry powerhouse, Allan Grubman whose client roster includes such pop stars as Ricky Martin, Elton John, Shania Twain and Jennifer Lopez celebrated his birthday at his Hamptons estate this weekend. He and his wife Deborah Grubman along with friends Martha Stewart, Candice Bergen, Bob Balaban and Margo & Jimmy Nederlander were entertained not by pop stars but crooner Tony Bennett, Allen’s favorite singer. With 35 lawyers working for him, his New York City practice has expanded into other kinds of talent, taking on Martha Stewart and fashionistas like Tommy Hilfiger and Vera Wang.

Michael Kors

Pride Week may have officially ended this past weekend, but the passing of the Same-Sex Marriage Law on Friday night means that Pride Week is Celebration will continue especially with the multi million dollar wedding industry in New York.

In celebration, a slew of West Village stores have covered their storefronts in rainbow flags, but a few have gone further, theming their whole windows around the gay marriage struggle. Hamptonite and mega designer Michael Kors has filled his Bleecker Street store windows with the best celebration of the issue.

In partnership with the Human Rights Campaign, his display wizards have filled the windows with very elegant wedding cakes. Only these classy cakes are topped with either a pair of brides or a pair of grooms. Michael whose business has grown enormously in the last few years is looking to expand and word is Tommy Hilfiger another old pal form the Hamptons may be there with a big check.

****

Jamie Foxx

Sorry, if anyone was disappointed about no-show Jamie Foxx at last weekend’s

Reginald F. Lewis Foundation luncheon. Folks who did attend are reportedly feeling dissed by the Oscar winner. But those same folks are still talking up his new project. He’ll co-star with Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarrantino's next picture, "Django Unchained," the story of a freed slave in the old west,

Christian Scheider And Brenda Siemer Scheider

Just the other evening, I caught a new episode of Law & Order Criminal Intent: The Last Street in Manhattan and to my utter amazement there was the late Roy Scheider in a cameo appearance. My friend Roy passed away three years ago in Little Rock, Arkansas where he was successfully undergoing treatment for a rare form of cancer. But it wasn’t the cancer that took his life but an infection picked up in the hospital.

In any event, I learned that his appearance was archival footage used to provide a back-story. The wonders of film & TV – Roy who never stopped working right to the end would have loved it. I hope his wife the lovely and talented film maker Brenda Siemer Scheider will get his royalty check!

The internationally acclaimed Eroica Piano Trio will perform Bruce Wolosoff's "Tantric Scherzo", along with works by Beethoven, Gershwin, and Ravel,

at Guild Hall in East Hampton on Sunday July 17th at 6:30 P.M. Bruce Wolosoff is a year-round resident of Shelter Island and has been a visiting artist at the Hayground School in Bridgehampton for the past 8 years. Coincidentally, I met Bruce, a brilliant composer and musician through Roy Scheider one of the Hayground School co-founders!

Andy Roddick

French design house Lacoste famed for its polo shirts has teamed up with the likes of Catherine Malandrino, Andy Roddick, and contemporary Chinese artist Li Xiaofeng, but its latest collaboration might just top them all: Jonathan Adler and a French needle pointing nun.

Adler’s collaboration with the preppy sportswear brand includes a “Super Limited Edition” collection of just 12 polo shirts, each entirely needle pointed by hand, by the aforementioned nun—a task that reportedly takes 400 hours per shirt.

The Polo will be packaged inside a ceramic crocodile and sold for a yet-to-be-determined amount—but suffice it to say that it will likely be significantly more expensive than the other offerings from the collaboration, which will retail for $150 (“Special Edition”) and $250 (“Limited Edition”).
