His Royal Highness Sheikh Fahad Al Salem Al -Ali Al-Sabah addressed leaders and individuals the other night at the United Nations. He is a humanitarian who believes in and actively pursues evolving the rights of Arab Citizens, saying, "Ignorance and extremism are two of the major threats against world peace today."
He has established the Fahad Al Salem Center for Dialogue Among Civilizations and the Defense of Liberty, ensuring that more justice and less inequality is afforded to all, whether in the Arab World or throughout the globe. This non-governmental organization, started its activity in Kuwait and is now established in the US and registered with the United Nations. Many of you may recall that Sheikh Fahad was taken as a prisoner of war by Iraq from November of 1990 till his release in June of 1991. Since that time, he has held many high ranking positions in Kuwait. "I know firsthand what it feels like to have your have basic human rights and freedom taken from you. It is for this reason that I have created The Center, to help facilitate the international debate around the need to advance individual freedoms and basic human rights," says Sheikh Fahad. "We will focus on education to combat ignorance, which we believe is the major threat to peace. The Center will facilitate the distribution of data, academic studies and news reports designed to spur democratic discussions, influence governments and civil society and inform policies that affect us all."
