SANT AMBROEUS TOPS HAMPTONS HOTSPOT
Lots of buzz out East this weekend from hot movies to wild yard sales to benefits for a number of worthy causes. Here's few items folks are talking about.....................
Director Steven Spielberg created the summer blockbuster back in 1975 with the release of “Jaws”. This year without even having to sit in the director‘s chair, he has his name on the mast of three of the summers most anticipated films - J.J. Abrams’ “Super 8,” Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and Jon Favreau’s “Cowboys and Aliens,” He has Executive Producer credits on all three. Expect to see these films plugged in every form of media from Tumblr to Twitter which didn’t exist years ago when he launched such mega hits as “E.T.: Extra-Terrestrial,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Jurassic Park,” among others.
To catch the maestro’s latest masterpiece, we’ll have to wait until Christmas when his latest directorial effort will be released “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.” Until then movie lobby concessionaires will be pumping around his pet projects.

Last year self made millionaire Cheryl Mercuris, a divorcee from Tampa spent a jaw-dropping $500,000 to rent Joe Farrell’s spec house “Sandcastle” for a mere two weeks in order to meet a new husband – or at least companion. Well Cheryl didn’t pick up a new beau last season but bless her free spending soul she is coming back to the same pricey rental for the entire month of July. Situated on over 11 acres, Sandcastle boasts some pretty amazing and romance inducing amenities like 12 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a bowling alley, rock-climbing wall and a luxurious spa. What a price for true love!

I never knew my friend uber funny lady Angela LaGreca was such a fan of “Liza with a Z” until I received her e mail about a very special yard sale she was hosting at her East Hampton home offering “Lots of great albums, furniture, jewelry, handbags, couture, and other items owned by Liza Minnelli. Yup, there's a pink boa, a sequined vest, and shoes worn in “Steppin Out”, just sittin' there in my driveway waiting for you to step in and take 'em outta here”. Pink feather boa? I’m there.

Meanwhile over in Sag Harbor, Darrell Hammond had the critics falling all over themselves with gushing – and well deserved praise - about his portrayal of Truman Capote in “Tru” at the Bay Street Theater. The New York Times called the production”
"Deeply affecting..." and "...a meticulously conceived production”. Hamptons.com called Hammond’s turn as Capote a ”remarkable performance”.

Fran Drescher looked to her own past for inspiration for her new TV Land show Happily Divorced, which premieres this week. The comedy about a woman whose husband turns out to be gay is actually based on her real life. Drescher's husband, Peter Marc Jacobson, came out of the closet after their marriage of 21 years ended. The pair though divorced is collaborating on the show. The nasally voiced comedienne will host a Father’s Day Benefit this weekend at East Hampton Studio for her Cancer Schmancer organization. Our good friend Michael Wudyka will be honored as Father of the Year.
The event will include food, live music, viewing of US Open, castle bounce, face painting, video games, craft projects and many more family fun activities.

Nick & Toni’s may draw the Hollywood crowd but Sant Ambroeus remains the hotspot for the power social set especially the gals who make things happen for so many worthy causes . Spotted Sunday afternoon was uber fundraiser Gayle Perkins Atkins dining with her granddaughter inside and at a prime table outside, philanthropist Jean Shafiroff who once again is chairing the Southampton Hospital Party. Jean was overheard telling friends, including Regina Kravitz that already over $1 million has been committed to the gala – and the invitation has not yet gone out. Now that’s fundraising of mega-proportion.

There wasn’t much celebrity spotting on the East End Sunday night as most of the Hamptons A-List stars were at the Tony Awards with host Neil Patrick Harris. Joel Grey, Christie Brinkley, Brooke Shields, Alec Baldwin, Kelsey Grammer, Stewart F. Lane, Bonnie Comley and Matthew Broderick were all decked out in their best red carpet looks – Brooke looking especially smashing - for the stroll to the Beacon Theater.
