Ernie Lake And Josh KatzWhen the Muzak Company filed for bankruptcy earlier this year (owing to a lack of money for the writers whose music they utilized), EL MEDIA GROUP jumped in with a similar and more realistic opportunity for people who require such programmed music. EL MEDIA GROUP has actually been on the map for the pasts several years, JOSH KATZ, a former power player in the record business; and, ERNIE LAKE, a producer who has worked with such artists as Pink, Usher, and Toni Braxton (“Unbreak My Heart”), pooled their efforts and smarts. Together the pair have not only produced CDs for hotels and restaurants (like the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino; Tao; Morgan’s Hotel group; and, the Hotel Gansevoort) but also designed all the operational sound installation equipment at Jet Blue’s new Terminal 5, at JFK. Says Katz, “Our music styling is 100% custom to each restaurant, hotel, or store. Many of our clients had Muzak prior to us coming in and they all complained that the music selection was bad and the sound quality even worse.” Their PR-mouthpiece David Salidor says, “These guys, especially considering their backgrounds, make a real effort to program amazing music. When Josh told me that they utilize Internet technology, as opposed to the satellite technology of Muzak, that made all the

When someone goes to these guys … it’s a 200% effort.” Katz also pointed out that Muzak service was in mono, and that they only work in stereo. It makes a big difference.They’re about to launch a lower-tier product called iStyle Music. Says Lake, “It’s a very high quality product for chain stores with a lower price point. We think the reception will be terrific.” Katz adds that there’s also a streaming music channel on the boards, with selections handpicked by the two that will feature some of the best indie-artists from around the world.
