Merle Exit

James: Hi Merle Exit. Exit? Is that your real name?

Merle: Oh no. I changed my name to Exit because I wanted to see my name up in lights.

James: Cute. Did you do this while being a journalist for a nom de plume?

Merle: No, I had been in show business for several years before hitting the computer keys. I started when I was about 14 years old and had a comedy partner. We did Community Theatre, a few bookings and eventually I was on my own and acquiring a SAG card.

James: SAG? Did you appear in movies?

Merle: Just one major one, Up The Down Staircase. I have to tell you that when I auditioned and fillings out the form, it read, “SAG” and I guess I was supposed to either check it off or leave it blank. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why they wanted to know if my tits sagged!

James: So, aside from being in movies, what other forms of show biz outlets did you get yourself into?

Merle: I wanted to try them all. I managed to do some extra work in a commercial, a few Off-Off Broadway shows, a few television appearances, had…and still have…a nightclub act doing both comedy and singing and I made a radio appearance on the Joey Adams Show.

James: Is that what made you decide to do Whirl With Merle on blogtalkradio?

Merle: No way. As a matter of fact, after trying to do a scene from the Wizard of Oz on the radio, I decided that the last form of entertainment communication would be the radio. Come to think of it, writing was my worst subject in school and now I’m doing both!

James: So, how did your radio show come about and what are the subjects?

Merle: Aside from being a journalist for several publications, I am the Public Relations Director for the New York Sharks women’s tackle football team, which is an entire story unto itself. I was interviewed on this Internet radio show that focuses on women’s football. My webmaster….thank goodness I have one….encouraged me to do my own show. I started with a 15-minute segment this past December and now it’s and hour and a half. My main focus is travel and then I talk about food, new products entertainment and a new country called Igrotcrameny. When I do my broadcast on Thursday evenings I have a land phone and computer for internet access. I can view a “switchboard” that allows me to click onto a caller when a see a phone number pop up. Once the caller calls in to a special phone number they can hear me and my broadcast until I click to open the microphone. I also have an area that allows me to upload stuff like music and commercials. I set up time spots for callers that I’m interviewing and rarely get people just calling in. The best part is that the shows are archived so that anyone can listen to a particular show that suits their interest or wants to laugh. I tend to do comedy on the shows.

James: Do you always do this from your home?

Merle: So far I’ve “taken it on the road” twice. I was in Branson, MO and broadcast the show from an office at the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theater. I had a few guests from the area calling in and one guest came into the office where I used the phone as a microphone to interview him. It was fun! Another time I was at an event at B.B. King’s and they set it up for me to be in an office feeding me guests that talked about the travel event. Of course when I’m home I can wear whatever I want and my cat, Mallory, can come into the room. Hmmm….I guess I can tell the audience that I’m sitting here naked playing with my p***y.

James: How do we get to hear your show?

Merle: You can either go to http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ and put “Whirl With Merle” in the search box or go to http://www.merleswhirls.com/ (my website) and click onto the blogtalkradio icon. By the way when people ask me if I’m from Queens I say, “No, my folks are straight”. News at 11.
