Monkee-Micky Dolenz knows first-hand of the sprit of the 60's (why, just go back to that wonderful Henry Diltz book and see!) ... where more of a shared-consciousness and helping-hand attitude seemed to be the order the day. Maybe we've just gone more corporate these days, but it's nice to know that spirit still exists: Dolenz is headlining a show in Toronto next month (Thursday, July 10 @ the Capitol Events Theatre), with the Canadian-band The Spoons, for a community in Ontario called Utopia (!). The event is to raise funds and awareness for that local community, of about 100, where they have wanted to restore a local gristmill (Bells' Gristmill), and the ground it rests on, as a conservation area. The mill was a centerpoint in the history of the town, created in the 1880's, and ended up going out of business in 1965. The concert is to restore the mill and make the accompanying grounds into an educational and environmental center. The two individuals behind the concert and movement are TYRONE BILJAN and SUSAN ANTLER, and their enthusiasm and dedication is to be commended. Tyrone actually designed the concert poster, surely something most suitable for a museum somewhere. Dolenz's pr-man DAVID SALIDOR (the Pasha!) is lending his expert aid for the cause too, recruiting several key, media people in the States to get on board and create even more awareness and excitement. Says Salidor, "To lend assistance for a charitable event is always good, but for an environmental event like this, its particularly special. I'm honored to have been asked to join in by Susan and Tyrone. I am a believer ... always have been!"Dolenz says of the show, "I'm looking forward to being in Toronto again to meet fans of all ages and to perform the songs that have been such a big part of our lives. This show will be an evening of great songs and memories to help raise funds for something that I heard about and now believe in!"
