ZOE SILVERMAN DEBUTS AT CUTTING ROOM

Zoe and Alex

Back in the day, TOMMY BOY RECORDS, which started up in 1981 (headed up by Tom Silverman) pretty much ruled the 'rap-music' scene. With projects like THE JONZUN CREW; AFRIKA BAMBAATAA; PLANET PATROL; INFORMATION SOCIETY; DE LA SOUL, and, WHIZ KID ... they set the scene for modern-day rap attractions like EMINEM and KANYE WEST. They even introduced COOLIO to the MTV crowd, as well as QUEEN LATIFAH, and, through it all Silverman endured; at one point he even sold half-his company to WARNER BROTHERS, which increased the company's reach worldwide. Last night, at Steve Walter's Cutting Room, his daughter Zoe (with partner Alex) debuted her music. On first listen, it sounded much like a modern-day SALT 'N PEPPER Of the six tracks they performed, we especially like "This Mess" and "I Want A Love I Can Feel." At the SRO crowd we spied SIRE RECORDS SEYMOUR STEIN (surely one of the architects of the music industry ... he introduced us groups like THE TALKING HEADS and KID CREOLE & THE COCONUTS... not to mention MADONNA); DANNY GLASS, from Glass Note Records; dis COMPANY's DAVID SALIDOR; and, KEITH GIRARD, from THE IMPROPER; and, our favorite NILE RODGERS with NANCY HUNT. It was a grand first impression.
