Wesley Snipes Hollywood star Wesley Snipes lawyer has urged jurors to acquit the star because acting "kooky, crazy and loony" is not against the law. Attorney Robert Barnes, who is defending the actor against tax evasion charges, told the Ocala, Florida, court that Snipes does not deserve to be jailed, and he will still be punished if he escapes prison.The actor stands accused of conspiring to defraud the U.S. out of millions of dollars in 2000 as part of a conspiracy scheme with co-defendants Eddie Ray Kahn and Douglas Rosile, and then failing to file tax returns. Prosecutors allege that Snipes flooded the U.S. tax agency with bizarre correspondence rather than file tax returns on his estimated $38 million income. But Snipes’ legal team insist the actor should not face a criminal conviction, because even if he is acquitted, Snipes will still face a civil prosecution. Wesley's representative said: "Both mother and baby are doing fine."The weight of the tot after delivery is not yet known. Alimayu is the couple's second child together. Wesley and Nikki have a daughter Iset, who was born in 2001.Wesley also has a son Jelani Asar, who was born in 1988, from his previous marriage to April Snipes. The 'Money Train' actor married April in 1985, before they divorced in 1990.Wesley and Nikki - who married in March 2003 - spend a lot of their time in Nikki's home country, with Wesley calling Korea his "second home". The actor has recently completed filming 'The Shooter', where he stars as an ex-CIA agent who is asked to assassinate a terrorist, only to discover he has been set up by his former employer.

Wesley Snipes has told a newspaper columnist he is being unfairly targeted by federal prosecutors who indicted him on tax fraud charges. "It appears I'm to be the scapegoat, because there's more public interest in `celebrities gone bad' than `rich people being taken advantage of,"' Snipes wrote last weekend in an e-mail to Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell. An Oct. 17 indictment charges Snipes with fraudulently claiming refunds totaling nearly $12 million in 1996 and 1997 on income taxes already paid. The star of the "Blade" trilogy and other films was also charged with failure to file returns from 1999 through 2004. According to the indictment, Snipes had his taxes prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients. Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes, wanted in the US on tax fraud charges, is on a movie set in Namibia, according to film officials in the African country. Edwin Kanguatjivi, chief executive officer of the Namibia Film Commission, told Reuters news agency that Mr Snipes had been in the country since August. Namibia has no extradition treaty with the US. Mr Snipes is accused of failing to file tax returns and falsely claiming nearly $12m in refunds. A US arrest warrant was issued for the star earlier this week, and prosecutors said he faces up to 16 years in jail if found guilty. The Namibia Film Commission said he was working on the set of Gallowwalker, in the Namibian desert, according to Reuters.
