Jean Shafiroff  Surgeons of Hope’s 2020 gala – its 8th annual gala and first virtual gala – was a great success! The Celebrating Our Heart Heroes gala, chaired by philanthropist and author Jean Shafiroff, exceeded its fundraising goals. The success allows Surgeons of Hope to continue to train local pediatric cardiac teams and provide lifesaving surgery for poor children with heart conditions in Latin America in 2021. To date, Surgeons of Hope has saved the lives of thousands of children in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Paraguay.    The November 12th gala was virtual this year due to Covid-19. Hundreds of attendees joined the gala from the comfort of their own homes around the globe. All enjoyed the evening hosted by the renowned Jacqueline Towers-Perkins, who also ran the night’s live auction.   Jean Shafiroff On Wednesday, October 15,2020, the Dominican Women’s Development Center, the largest independent Dominican founded organization in the United States, held its 32nd Anniversary Gala . This year's event was virtual because of the covid-19 pandemic. Jean Shafiroff , the celebrity philanthropist and TV host, served as chair of the event which featured a special performance by Amara La Negra., Evi Siskos served as emcee of the event.  Proceeds from the gala will help fund the center's diverse programs for Latina women and families of the Washington Heights community.  During the virtual Gala, Chairwoman Jean Shafiroff praised Rosita Romero, DWDC’s Executive Director, who has given 29 years of service to the Washington Heights community.  Mrs. Romero gave a moving speech and spoke about the work of the DWDC during the pandemic.
