**** THE WOODWARD REPORT By: Brian Woodward **** Ted Cruz As I intermittently listened to Senator Ted Cruz’s filibuster, or more correctly, his elongated speech, I heard all the arguments that have been trotted out before. He is right that this monstrosity of the Affordable Care Act will be incredibly burdensome on society. However, this is not about ideas it's about tactics. It is tiresome to hear politicos and pundits act as if the defunding of the bill is feasible. Senator Cruz knows that he cannot win and in waging this campaign he will needlessly incite increased division within the Republican party. He is a man who clearly has ambitions for the Presidency just eight months into his Senate term. He saw how Rand Paul became a star when he filibustered over the usage of drones. **** THE WOODWARD REPORT **** 9/11 Victims Put On Backburner, Desecration of Koran Grabs Headlines World Trade Center Bombing On a day where numerous memorials were held marking the 9th anniversary of the thousands killed in the September 11th terror attacks, remembering the fallen was far from the lead story. There is a deepening religious divide growing inside this country. The proposed mosque near ground zero and the planned Koran burnings have sparked the divide and government officials have failed to provide adequate leadership in regards to those issues. The rhetoric issued by government officials and political pundits concerning the proposed burning of the Koran on September 11th was as outlandish as it was appalling. **** THE WOODWARD REPORT **** Supreme Court When a San Francisco federal judge ruled the ban on same –sex marriage (enumerated by California’s Proposition 8) unconstitutional it was a big victory for freedom in the United States. No longer will the issue be one that it is determined on a state by state basis, but the issue will eventually be enshrined in federal law pending the eventual Supreme Court decision. The current ruling will be appealed in the 9th Circuit, but regardless of the outcome you can be assured this case will be heard by the highest court in the land. The question is – ‘What will be their verdict?’ Proposition 8, which accumulated 52.3% of the vote, was deemed unconstitutional because of its infringement on the due process and equal protection clauses of the 14th amendment. The reality is that there is no legitimate argument that outlines why same-sex marriage should be banned. No one can argue with a straight face that it will diminish the sanctity of marriage. ...

**** THE WOODWARD REPORT **** Charles Rangel Judge Strikes Down Key Provisions in Arizona Immigration Law A day before Arizona’s controversial immigration law was set to be enforced, U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton put on hold a provision that required officers to check a person’s immigration status while enforcing other laws. “The federal government’s ability to enforce its policies and achieve its objectives will be undermined by the state’s enforcement of statutes that interfere with federal law,” Bolton wrote. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said she will appeal the ruling. Woodward Note: The opinion administered by Bolton, who was appointed by Clinton, is a complete crock. Nothing in the Arizona law differentiates from federal law. The organization, calling itself Free Press, claims media companies are engaging in "hate speech" because a disproportionate number of radio and cable-news networks are owned by non-minorities. Free Press was one of 33 organizations that drafted a 25 page petition asking the FCC to "initiate an inquiry into the extent and effects of hate speech in media and to explore non-regulatory means by which to mitigate its negative impacts." In that speech he asserted that the current Arizona law is “ill conceived”, that the border is the most secure it has been in twenty years, and echoed the remarks made by Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano claiming that the border is simply to large to fully secure.
