Director Spike Lee says that when Hollywood's biggest stars gather next month in California next month for the 88th Annual Academy Awards, he will be on the other side of the country at a basketball game. "Feb. 28th, we’ll be at the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden," Lee said today on "Good Morning America." "I'm going to a Knicks game." Lee, a two-time Academy Award nominee, has spoken out about the lack of diversity among this year's Oscar nominees but he said his non-attendance should not be called a boycott. "Here’s the thing. I have never used the word boycott," Lee said on "GMA." "All I said was my beautiful wife Tanya, we’re not coming. That’s it, and I gave the reasons. I never used the word boycott." ...

LOVE NEIL PATRICK HARRIS BUT OSCARS HAD NO STEAM

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Neil Patrick Harris OSCARS 87 --- I’m feeling a bit meh about last night’s Oscars presentation. I love Neil Patrick Harris - his Hedwig was unquestionably one of the best things I've ever seen on stage - but, with a musical monologue beginning last night’s show – which reminded me more or less of Rob Lowe’s disastrous turn with Snow White years back- the show never really picked up any steam. Let’s face it: last year’s show with Ellen DeGeneres in the host post was simply stupendous … and, her so-called selfie resonated around the world. Harris predicted an even bigger stunt and it turned out to be his pre-show predictions of who would win and what would happen. With his answers encased in a briefcase in a lucite case on stage, it was tricky and at times awkward stunt that proved funny … but, certainly not the world-wide attention that Ellen's photo had garnered. Harris was good, d...

THE BEST AND THE WORST OSCAR NOMINATIONS EVER

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G. H. HARDING **** Clint Eastwood OSCAR NEWS --- The Oscar nominations were announced yesterday sending the net into a major hissy-fit: Snubbed: Into the Woods, Unbroken, and, Clint Eastwood as director of Best Picture nominee American Sniper. The LEGO Movie was dismissed. Almost all of Selma was bypassed, except for a Best Picture nom. The Bennett Miller film Foxcatcher, got everything but Best Picture. Also snubbed: Jennifer Aniston in Cake and Golden Globe-winner Amy Adams in Big Eyes. Robert Duvall’s good performance in a sub par movie, The Judge, was a nom as well. And, to me, a performance that’s really become etched into my mind, Steve Carell in Foxcatcher scored. Odd choices for sure. I’ve seen Cake and Aniston is really stellar. It took a few days for her performance to sink in, but she’s awesome. Last night at the Critic’s Choice Awards: Richard Linklater‘s 12-years-in-the-making ...

KEVIN SPACEY SLIPS ELLEN DEGENERES SOME GREEN

Image
**** THE GLORIOUS CORNER Story By: G.H. Harding **** Kevin Spacey OSCARS 86 --- After last year’s somewhat-mess-of-a-show with host Seth MacFarlane, the producers (Craig Zadan and Neil Meron) were determined more than ever to play it safe and that’s exactly what they got in the form of host Ellen DeGeneres, who was funny for sure, but somewhat laid back. Face it, when she hosted for the first time back in 2007, everyone loved her and though she wasn't as funny as, say Johnny Carson or even Bob Hope, she was an inspired and workable choice. Her dressing up as a fairy godmother after Pink performed “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” worked fine and actually having pizza delivered during the show was simply fall down funny; with names like Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford chomping at the bit.  For insiders, her asking for pizza-money from Hollywood-bigwig Harvey Weinstein in particular was funny. Damn. To wit: Harvey probably could have anted up with a bit mor...
