HARDING ****   Sofia Coppola PHOENIX RISING --- From the moment I heard about Her, Spike Jonze’s enormously enjoyable and emotive production, I wanted to see it. Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation remains a favorite of mine and it turn out that when Jonze was married to her, he began writing the screenplay for Her. So, many of the same notes are here: From Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of Theodore who is mourning a recent divorce and becomes obsessed (literally) with a newly installed operating system on his wireless device. Far-fetched? Perhaps, but these days, perhaps a most plausible option.  Voiced by the transcendent Scarlett Johansson, her Samantha, is like a growing child … and, grows fast she does. Harding **** Kevin Spacey SAG AWARDS --- As awards fatigue sets in, Saturday night was the SAG Awards (PGA Awards last night); with most of the winners the same from last week’s Globes and this past week’s Critic’s Choice Awards. It’s now time for a break; seven weeks till the Oscars. I'm glad American Hustle finally came into play winning the SAG-award for outstanding cast over the much-acclaimed historical drama 12 Years a Slave. The event was held Saturday night at Los Angeles’ be-dazzled Shrine Auditorium. The Shrine is like an airplane hangar, but it looked most seductive and twinkling this night. The night's winners included Matthew McConaughey for his lead role in Dallas Buyers Club and Lupita Nyong’o for her role in Slave. Harding **** DAYME DAYME --- A few columns back we told you about the song and video of Dayme’s “Rock The Hoodie.” As of this weekend, it’s received over 1.2 million hits. Says Dayme, “I was working on my next song when the whole Trayvon-incident came up and it just moved me so … it was so close to my heart. Unity is where we all need to be; the case was more about the injustice of the Law … the Law failed him more so than the jury. It was a great injustice to all.” The song has attracted so much interest within the industry, Dayme is now looking at several offers from various labels for a full-length album. Stay tuned. Harding **** Kevin Spacey Emmy Dearest --- Last week’s Emmy’s nominations declared once and for all - that all of the great drama series out now, are not on the networks anymore, but on cable. Netflix’s terrific House Of Cards, was nominated for a Best Drama Series; as well as its stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. CBS’ Good Wife, which has been nominated every year since its inception, didn't make the list this year either; USA’s Political Animals (now canceled) was nominated too, as well as the superlative Homeland. One bone I've got with the Emmy-people (and, I'm not alone it seems) is over the fact that although Mad Men got nominated for Best Drama (and, star Jon Hamm); none of its episodes were nominated for Best Writing Awards.
