Before I turn to a discussion of rent law renewal, I wanted to express my belief that Dean Skelos must step down as Temporary President of the Senate. Senator Skelos faces serious charges that he misused his office and supported or opposed specific legislation in order to gain personal benefits for him and his son. While Senator Skelos is entitled to a presumption of innocence in court, allowing him to remain in his current leadership position places the public interest at risk. I have long stated that regardless of party, any legislative leader facing charges related to their duties should step down from that leadership post.
