A large collection of Art by Master Collage Artist George Schulman, a reverred Long Island New York School abstract expressionist whose friends teachers mentors and students read like the whos who of Abstract Expressionism Pop and Grafitti Artists and Contemporary Artists whose love of light and nature, dedication and passion keep a Long Island a destination for Art, Artists, Enthusiasts and Collectors.

Abstract artists, like all artists, find their way through experimentation with elements and principles of art. Line, shape, volume, value, color and texture are pulled together according to the principles used throughout the history of art.

An abstract photograph is the result of the observation of patterns in nature and the manufactured world. Perhaps the viewer senses the meaning through formal qualities of balance or imbalance, static or dynamic movement, in a visual language that is analogous to poetry where words can be made up. Abstract art has been compared to jazz. Improvisation is evident in collage, where materials are chosen, and often juxtaposed in surprising ways. A photo clipped from a magazine is set alongside a scrap of wallpaper, and combined they have new meaning. To make abstract art may look simple, even childlike, but each artist struggles to create their own language of mark-making, of shapes and materials that are combined and recombined in a meaningful way.

While a child makes art according to their developmental stage, a mature artist often has to let go of all they have learned and get back to that childlike mindset or let go of their conscious mind in order to create new forms. In this exhibit, five artists show you, their results. --Linda Prentiss, Curator Gallery 90
