Jean Shafiroff And Patrick McMullan

On Sunday March 17, 2019 Martin and Jean Shafiroff hosted a St. Patrick’s Day cocktail party honoring Stony Brook Southampton Hospital with their special guest Patrick McMullan.

All guests were encouraged to wear green with the party host wearing an Oscar de la Renta green and gold ballgown. Patrick McMullan is known for his St. Patrick’s Day parties, and in 2017, Jean threw him surprise dinner to celebrate the occasion. Patrick is said to be one of the inventors of modern social and event photography, and the Irish Embassy has called him “a vital Irish American.”

Midway through the event, Jean commanded the attention of the room to talk about the importance of the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and how it “was vital to residents of the East End.” She then added with a smile, “there are two things you need – a good hospital and a good ambulance.” She then introduced Patrick calling him, “the icon of icons.” Patrick also stressed the importance of the hospital saying, “I am incredibly grateful for the hospital as without it, I wouldn’t be here.”

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s 61st Annual Summer Party will take place on Saturday August 3rd, 2019 and will honor Jean and Martin Shafiroff. Jean has also been named to the board of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Association.

About Jean Shafiroff

Jean Shafiroff, philanthropist, activist, humanitarian, and author of ‘Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life by What You Give,’ is at the vanguard of a new movement of modern philanthropists. Her philanthropy goes beyond financial contributions and includes the gifts of extensive time and knowledge. Through her work, she encourages and seeks to empower all individuals to become philanthropists so that they can build the fulfillment of giving into their lives.

A volunteer fundraiser, leader and spokesperson for several charitable causes, the spectrum of Jean’s philanthropic work includes improving the lives of underserved populations, women’s rights and well-being, health care, animal welfare and resources for children in need, in addition to other causes.

Jean works closely with the multiple causes she supports. Her board memberships include of New York City Mission Society, French Heritage Society, Couture Council, Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, Southampton Bath & Tennis Club’s Charitable Foundation, and Global Strays. In addition, Jean is an Ambassador for the American Humane Society and the Ambassador-at-large for the Southampton Animal Shelter. She is also a New York Women's Foundation Board Alumna and remains very active with the Foundation.

Each year she chairs numerous galas and hosts events benefiting numerous not-for-profit organizations, and has been honored by multiple organizations including the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, New York City Mission Society, Youth Counseling League, Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services, Surgeons of Hope, The Ellen Hermanson Foundation, Pet Philanthropy Circle, Animal Zone International, NYC International Film Festival, Women's Leadership Awards, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, the Dominican Women’s Development Center, and the Better World Awards, and

The Roshni TIA Awards for raising awareness of young women with autism,

Jean holds an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University and a BS in physical therapy from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She has worked both in public finance and private partnerships on Wall Street. Prior to that, she was a physical therapist at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City. Jean is married to Martin Shafiroff, an investment advisor, and together they have two daughters, who share their mother’s interest in charitable causes. Jean and her family reside in both New York City and Southampton.
