BACKSTREET BOYS

ON LIFE

“Life is great, 25 years going strong, loving every moment of it. It’s great to be back playing on radio, radio has given us so much love with this new single, we have a lot of great things going on, we have a Las Vegas residency going on and were getting ready to go back out there end of July.”

ON MUSIC

“We have a new album coming out and a new tour next year, there is a lot of amazing things happening to us”

ON THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THIS ROUND OF MUSIC COMPARED TO WHEN THEY WERE STARTING

“It takes a little more planning, we have kids and it takes a little more strategic foresight, but what never gets old is the feeling of hearing your music on the radio, that still feels so good.”

ON THEIR MUSIC AND HOW IT MAKES OTHERS FEEL

“People say “Backstreet is back” but we have been creating and putting music together, we have been touring, but when you have something that resonates with the public on a scale like what is happening with Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, it is been a while since we did something like that, and we appreciate it and it’s a sacred feeling and its special.”

ON HOW THEIR CAREER HAS INFLUENCED THEIR LIVES

“We are older now and we are thankful and grateful to have this feeling again.”

“When you think back to the 90’s and the big boy band movement that happened, we created a lot of memories that are just staples in our brains forever, they become who you are today.”

ON HOW CREATING MUSIC AGAIN BRINGS BACK MEMORIES

“You hear that song on the radio and you still get butterflies and it is like an “oh my gosh, it is happening again” feeling.”

ON THEIR RECENT WORK WITH COUNTRY MUSIC

“We did not expect that and it has been incredible how all these different types of music genres and people who are fans of different genres have embraced us and being able to perform on the CMT’s and the CMA’s and being stopped by people backstage like Carrie Underwood and Little Big Town and being told they love our music, it feels surreal in a lot of ways.”

ON RECORDING THEIR NEW ALBUM

“When we were down in Nashville we recorded three songs for our new album, we are very excited to share them”

ON TECHNOLOGY WHEN THEY WERE STARTING

“I mean we were teenagers, good thing there was not any social media!”

“It was a totally different time, the camera phone was a big deal, you could not go to our show and text the world your thoughts after it. I remember hearing the clicking on a disposable camera when we would get mobbed by fans, it is totally different now”

ON THEIR UPCOMING SCHEDULE

“We have a residency in Vegas at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino so we will be going out there end of July through august, and then October to November and then February and then we go on tour!

5 SECONDS OF SUMMER

ON THE IMMEDIATE SUCCESS OF YOUNGBLOOD

“We have been working on this for some time so it truly is amazing to see how successful it already is, if everyone is smiling that means it is working for us, we just spoke to fans outside the studio and they seem stoked and that is so amazing”

ON YOUNGBLOOD

“Youngblood has so many different elements that people can be a fan of, it’s not just a straight down the line genre album, and I think that is awesome I think that is where music is at these days, I am excited to see what the fans gravitate towards.”

ON HOW BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL MUSICIAN IN AUSTRALIA IS HARD

“Naturally since Australia is so separate from the rest of the world, Australians tend to gravitate towards international artists, its hard for an Australian artist to break out. Something that we have dreamed of is having a really successful hit in our own country and it took one week to get to number one”

ON HOW IT FEELS TO HAVE A SUCESSFUL SINGLE AND ALBUM

“It feels so good, we worked on YoungBlood for two years, so to have it be successful is a very big deal for us”

ON THEIR UPCOMING TOUR

“We are very excited to take Youngblood on the road, we are going to North America in September, its going to be great to play this album on the road”

ON WHAT THEY'll DO DIFFERENTLY THIS TOUR THAN LAST

“You learn a lot of things about yourself when you go on tour, it is very different than a regular home life, you learn what you need in order to be happy”

ON HOW THEY PERFORM BEFORE THE ALBUM RELEASE

“We like to play smaller venues and play new songs for our fans off the album, before it is released, that they cannot find online so they know when the album comes out they are going to already have favorites.”

“It is really invigorating to play small venues because it brings us back to our roots.”

ON CONNECTING WITH THEIR FANS THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA

“We like to keep our conversations to minimum on social media so that when we meet them, it is genuine. That is just how we like to live our life because when you meet fans, then you are having a natural, genuine conversation and hear things that they may not want to write online.”

ON THEIR NEXT ALBUM

“We are considering filming a documentary while writing the next album, we are always being proactive and thinking about what we have to do next, we just released Youngblood today, and we are already thinking about the next one”

ON HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT HAVING A THIRD ALBUM

“This is the most important record for us and our first two records have really set the ground for Five Seconds of Summer and now Youngblood is on its way to the ceiling”

“There could have been a lot of different outcomes of this album and we made the best thing and we are very proud of it”

ON THE BACKSTREET BOYS BEING AN INSPIRATION

“When we have a crazy mob of fans we turn to each other and ask if we are backstreet right now?” “We respect them because they have stuck together for so long and it’s incredible”
