Branden James

Start Publishing is proud to announce the upcoming publication of America’s Got Talent finalist and celebrated tenor Branden James’s memoir, tentatively titled A LIFE LIVED WITH PURPOSE.

A LIFE LIVED WITH PURPOSE follows Branden James’s inspiring life story. After struggling through a confusing and religiously conservative childhood blighted by sexual abuse in school, James finds himself grappling with an unexpected HIV diagnosis, depression and self-doubt, his subsequent experimentation with drugs and alcohol as an escape, as well as other adversities. Despite these hardships and the dealing with the realities of fame, James discovers that by embracing vulnerability and openness, he can live an authentic life – one in which he chooses to inspire rather than aspire. His voice inspired millions on America’s Got Talent, and his memoir will continue to do the same.

Branden James came to national attention when he sang “Nessun Dorma” on the eighth season of America’s Got Talent and received positive votes from all four judges. He inspired millions with both his voice and openness about his sexuality. Branden spent much of the last decade singing in Residence at The Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago. He has performed personally for Pope Benedict XVI and the Nelson Mandela family in South Africa. He has sung “The Star-Spangled Banner” to kick off for The Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Cubs, White Sox, and The Gay Games. He currently plays in a cello and vocal duo aptly named Branden & James, with his husband, Australian cellist James Clark. Together they’ve been traveling the globe playing their shows, “At The Corner of Symphony” and Soul and “You Had Me At Cello.” They are currently recording their first full-length studio album with Sony Classical Producer Patrick Hamilton. They will make their New York City debut at the iconic Feinstein’s/54 Below in October 2018 with a brand new show, “The Broadway Covers Project.” Branden has appeared in numerous media outlets including NBC, The Chicago Tribune, WGN radio, Out Magazine, Next Magazine, Instinct Magazine and more.
