New York, N.Y. – Author and Philanthropist Jean Shafiroff and Martin Shafiroff hosted a reception on the Upper East Side on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 to celebrate Surgeons of Hope. Surgeons of Hope, a nonprofit striving to ensure that pediatric heart surgeries are available to the world’s most under-resourced regions, kicks off another year of service and fundraising by reconvening friends and partners. Attending guests gained insight into Surgeons of Hope’s growing efforts in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Peru, and encouraged to celebrate the nonprofit’s work at its One Night for Hope Gala on May 3rd in New York.

The 2018 Night for Hope gala is honoring the memory of Michel Berty, co-founder of the Long Island Chapter of l’Arche USA and long-time supporter and part of the board of Surgeons of Hope. Starting the tradition of the annual Gala to benefit the children of Latin America, he was a generous contributor for the foundation.

This year’s Gala Chairs are Michael Katz and Robert G. Pine.

Although complex pediatric heart surgeries and treatments are available, they are often out-of reach for the world’s more under-resourced regions. Surgeons of Hope strives to build a more equitable world by ensuring no child is negatively affected by a broken heart. Once surgeries are conducted, Surgeons of Hope also provides facilities, technology and triaging to ensure local medical professionals can continue this service in their communities.
