Founded by world renowned filmmaker Terra Renee, African American Women In Cinema (AAWIC) is the premier international organization designed for women of color to showcase their talents in all aspects of film making, which include producing, writing, directing and acting, as well as behind-the-scenes work. The innovative programs of African American Women in Cinema (AAWIC) include an annual film festival, workshops throughout the year, networking events, along with panels and social activities.


On October 13, 2016, for the second year in a row, African American Women In Cinema (AAWIC) will present the WES (Women of Excellence Awards) at Morgan Stanley, 1585 Broadway, New York City. This esteemed VIP awards ceremony has been designed to honor leading women who have paved the way for those who are following in their footsteps in various industries.


The 2016 class of honorees includes Neema Barnette, Producer & Director, Queen Sugar, Executive Produced by Oprah Winfrey & Ava DuVernay; Connie DeLaigle, Affirmative Action Coordinator for Minority Women Business Owners for Port Authority NY/NJ; Moikgantsi Kgoma, Founder of Image Nation; Carol Ann Shine, Co-founder of Blackhouse Foundation;Josie Thomas, CBS Executive EVP Chief Diversity, Inclusion Office and Nneka Onuorah, Producer, Black Girl Rocks.
