Author Samantha Bruce-Benjamin’s second novel, The Westhampton Leisure Hour and Supper Club, is about five minutes in the life of a Hampton’s society hostess and offers a fascinating view of the devastation that the 1938 Hurricane wrought in the Hamptons. Based on a real supper club and historical research, Ms. Bruce-Benjamin’s novel has been praised for its author’s skillful rendering of both the milieu and her characters, whose lives are changed forever on September 21, 1938. Co-sponsored with the Rogers Memorial Library.
Samantha Bruce-Benjamin was born and raised in Edinburg, Scotland. She received a Master of Arts with honors in English Literature from the University of Edinburg. Formerly she worked as a literacy editor for Random House and BBC. Along with The Westhampton Leisure Hour and Supper Club, Ms. Bruce-Benjamin has written The Art of Devotion, an Examiner and Bookreporter Best Book of 2010. Ms. Bruce-Benjamin is currently spends her time in New York and Edinburg while she works towards her PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Edinburgh.
