TONY RANDALL THEATRICAL FUND ANNOUNCES AWARDS

Tony Randall

The Tony Randall Theatrical Fund is proud to announce the award winners for the 2015-2016 season. Furthering its commitment to non-profit theater companies, innovative productions, initiatives in the arts education and arts-based community outreach programs, TRTF grants aid the growth and development of each organization. This year the Fund is pleased to award over $100,000, for general operating support grants to twelve exceptional theater companies with a proven track record of artistic excellence and ambitious, mission-driven theater-making.

ART/NY is a leading service and advocacy organization for New York City’s non-profit theatre field helping more than 350 member companies realize their artistic visions. ART/NY helps theaters serve their diverse audiences well, through subsidized and shared office and rehearsal spaces, re-grants and cash flow loans, and more.

TRTF is also proud to honor Classic Stage Company (CSC) known for theatre that re-imagines the classical repertory for a contemporary American audience. CSC presents plays from the past that speak directly to the issues of today.

By awarding Elevator Repair Service its fourth operating support grant, TRTF celebrates our enthusiasm for ERS as a truly exciting and innovative company with a remarkable capacity for re-inventing theatrical forms.

Red Bull Theatre continues to produce remarkable heightened-language plays from the Jacobean era, bringing forth the relevance and vitality of long-neglected works for today's audiences.

Meanwhile, Playwrights Horizons continues to champion the American playwright by presenting first-rate productions of new works, and actively working to bring young audiences into the theater by offering deeply discounted tickets for students and theatergoers under 30.

INTAR: International Arts Relations, Inc. one of the longest running Latino theaters committed to the development of theater arts without borders. To date, the theater has commissioned, developed, and produced works by more than 175 Latino writers, composers, and choreographers.

In honor of Tony Randall’s career in radio, TRTF is thrilled to recognize Playing on Air, a public radio show and podcast distributing the work of great contemporary playwrights for today’s digital audience.

TRTF is happy to award a grant to Signature Theatre in honor of James Houghton’s retirement from the theatre he founded 25 years ago. Jim’s legacy is a permanent home at The Pershing Square Signature Center and an extended commitment to a playwright’s body of work.

TRTF is pleased to recognize The Sundance Institute Theatre Program for their advancement of theatre artists by providing rare developmental opportunities that support artists throughout their careers.

TRTF supports the very big, small theater that is Soho Rep. Every year, they produce brand-new work often by very early career artists and support that work in highly adventurous ways.

We also wish to honor Labyrinth Theater Company, a home for diverse theater artists and the daring and visceral work that they create. TRTF celebrates Labyrinth’s commitment to accessibility by providing $25 tickets to every main stage production, as well as numerous free opportunities to their audiences to experience new work in development.

About the Tony Randall Theatrical Fund

Tony Randall was one of the most respected and prolific actors of his generation. His legacy lives on in the Tony Randall Theatrical Fund. Each year TRTF awards general operating support grants to a small number of passionate, resourceful theater companies that continue to fulfill their mission despite ongoing financial constraints. Since Tony’s death in 2004, TRTF has awarded over 2 million dollars in grants.

Rather than soliciting grant applications, the TRTF awards funds to a short list of exceptional theater companies with a proven track record of artistic excellence and ambitious, mission-driven theater making.
