Upper East Side restaurant, Swifty’s, celebrated the festive season with a Holiday Art Show recently. Guests joined owners Robert Caravaggi and Chef Stephen Attoe for cocktails, tasty hors d’oeuvres, and a look at paintings by talented New York artists Tim Snell, Patucci Shehan and Mark Shehan.

Patrons at Swifty’s are always delighted to see the exquisite selection of paintings and photos displayed on the walls of the restaurant, which are rotated regularly by Caravaggi and Attoe. Chef Attoe’s wife, Patricia Attoe, draws on her extensive art background in curating the art at the restaurant. Recently Swifty’s exhibited one of photographer Harry Benson’s famous Beatles photos, and New York artist Mary Lou Schempf’s stunning work is exhibited in the front room on an ongoing basis. Her work complements the restaurant’s style and décor which was brought to life by famed decorators Mario Buatta and Anne Eisenhower.

This holiday season, a total of 29 paintings by talented New York artists will be exhibited at Swifty’s. Twelve of the paintings on display had already been sold to eager customers before the opening night. New York-based visual artist Tim Snell (www.snellstudio.com), who has contributed mural and mosaics to the 8th Street and Broadway Subway stations, is showing eleven works, including his stunning gouache on paper entitled Voltaire’s Study. Snell is also behind all of the restaurant’s in-house art and designs, including Swifty’s creative menus. Artists Patucci and Mark Shehan, who have been making art together since meeting in 1970, will also display their works at Swifty’s. In 1988 they founded Mercy Street Studios in Providence, Rhode Island where they continue to create fine art as well as fabricate murals, mosaics and decorative finishes for commercial and residential projects. Tim Snell, Patucci and Mark have often collaborated on commissions, and especially enjoy painting while on travels and vacations together with their families.
