Just A Revolution – NBC’s Revolution, unceremoniously canceled by the network, bid a fond adieu to the airwaves Wednesday night with a show that was both well-acted and particularly well written. It was more of a season finale than a series finale, but by the time the network cut the show, the episode had already been written and filmed.
The show joins a group of sci-fi shows (Jericho, Millennium,Fast Forward, Almost Human, Dollhouse, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Stargate; and Alphas) that struggled at first, but began to build a sizable following that ultimately was ignored by the network. Revolution, in its second season, was not helped at all by a terrifically long-spring break by the network.
The show, created by J.J. Abrams, posited what would happen if all the electricity suddenly stopped. The first season was raw, somewhat rambling, but by the end of that season and this second season, it picked up miraculously well. The acting, particularly star Billy Burke and David Lyons was proactive and winning. I will miss this one.

QUENTIN RISES --- Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman are confirmed to attend a special celebration of Pulp Fiction in Cannes tomorrow night. Now I’m hearing word that Vincent Vega (John Travolta) himself will join his director and co-star in the festivities. The plan as it stands thus far is for the Pulp Fiction posse to walk the red carpet at the Palais at 6:30 PM on Friday night, then head off to a cocktail ahead of the film’s special beach screening which the director will introduce.
It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Pulp Fiction won the Palme d’Or. But that was not the first film Tarantino ever had in Cannes, two years earlier in 1992 his Reservoir Dogs was an Official Selection title that ran out of competition. Since then, movies he’s directed that have appeared at the Palais include Kill Bill Vol 2, Death Proof and Inglorious Bastards.
Tarantino is already in Cannes this week and will host the Closing Night screening of Sergio Leone’s 1964 Spaghetti Western, A Fistful of Dollars after Saturday’s main prize ceremony.
CLOSING NOTES -- Don't forget about the terrific Marcus Goldhaber tonight at Steve Walter’s Cutting Room …
Terrific fun watching arch foes Al Roker and Sam Champion vamping alongside one another on yesterday’s Today Show. If body language is everything; you get the message here. Think Matt Lauer and Ann Curry …
American Idol’s winner the other night, was 23-year old, robust singer Caleb Johnson. Interesting choice too: more of a rock singer, than anything else. Looking like something from singer Alexander Kariotis’ closet, he tried out for the show twice before and was turned away, Guess the third time is the charm. Good luck Caleb …
We were delighted at Monday’s preview performance of Smoke And Mirrors from magician/illusionist Albie Selznick. The show is produced by Michelle Grant and Danielle Gautier and had a sixteen month run of sold out performances in L. A. Grant says she wants to bring it to N. Y. He’s quite the performer too, funny, captivating and very, very good. We loved it …
According to the Hollywood Reporter's Pamela McClintock, Summer's 5 Biggest Risks movie-wise are: 1: Angelina Jolie's Maleficent; 2: Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow; #3: Jupiter Ascending; #4: Hercules; and, #5:Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
We're you going to see any of them? Me ... I am looking forward to seeing the Cruise-movie. I love Emily Blunt, who's in it too, and the commercials, sort of Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers, look wildly amusing ...
Can it be Memorial Day already? Half the year is almost over. We'll be back here next Wednesday. Be safe...
