5 SECONDS OF SUMMER PERFORMS ON ELVIS DURAN

5 Seconds Of Summer Perform 'She Looks So Perfect"

Australian pop sensation 5 Seconds of Summer performed their smash hit “She Looks So Perfect” on Elvis Duran and The Z100 Morning Show yesterday. The four-piece boy band sensation stopped by to talk about their debut EP that sold 143,000 copies earlier this month, life in the United States, and their success. Opening for One Direction’s North American 2014 summer arena tour, 5 Seconds of Summer have a huge fan base and currently have over 2.5 million Twitter followers. The hashtag #5SosOnElvis was even one of the top Trending Topics on Twitter today! When asked about their fame, the boys said, “We never pay any attention to money at all. Like everyone says that, but genuinely we didn’t have it in the beginning, we don’t have it now, and I don’t care if we ever make it.”

ON WAKING UP EARLY

“I like to think that the only seven is the one at night!”

ON PLAYING MUSIC IN ACROSS THE GLOBE

“It’s the best part [playing music for the fans]. We said the other night; we played a show in New York and it’s like we are from Sydney it’s not even the same hemisphere!”

ON NEW YORK CITY TAP WATER

“I couldn’t even see through it, it was like milk!”

ON AMERICAN APPAREL’S REACTION TO “SHE LOOKS SO PERFECT”

“Here’s the story - they [American Apparel] definitely don’t like the song. They just haven’t given us anything special. We even followed them on Instagram!”

ON HOW THEY MET

“We decided in the bedroom even before we met each other or knew each other really well that we were in our bedrooms playing guitars, drums, and stuff like that. When we met it wasn’t a serious thing. It was just four guys messing around.”

ON ASHTON BEING THANKFUL FOR HIS SUCCESS

“We all have to write a thank you for the album and I just [Ashton] wrote thank you for anyone who has given us a chance. My grandparents bought me a drum kit years ago and for them to do that they gave us a chance.”

ON FAME AND FORTUNE

“We never pay any attention to money at all. Like everyone says that, but genuinely we didn’t have it in the beginning, we don’t have it now, and I don’t care if we ever make it. As long as people care about the songs you right.”

ON BEING ORIGINAL

“If you want to be completely original you have to write what you’re feeling.”

ON LUKE REACTING TO FAME

“I’ve been in bands before this band and like you’re in loads of bands and you play at pubs and you do all that type of thing. No one gives a damn about your music and for someone to actually care about music you’ve written it’s an amazing thing.”

ON THE BAND PICKING THE “BEYONCE” OF THE GROUP

“He’s [Calum] got the nicest lower half of his body. His hips don’t lie!”

ON CREATING THE “SHE LOOKS SO PERFECT” MUSIC VIDEO

“Me and the boys have always wanted one thing in our videos and that’s nudity. Like all the old Blink 182 videos were so cool and we really wanted our own thing.”
