Connie Britton

You’ve loved her since Friday Night Lights, now she lights up your living room Wednesday nights on ABC’s Nashville. From her famous hair (she doesn’t have a Twitter account, but her hair does) to what it’s like to grow older, MORE gets Connie’s whole story. Her disappointment and heartbreak and her triumphs and successes make a character anyone can relate to and feel great affection for. Below are selected quotes from her interview. Please let me know if you would like a hi-res image of the cover.

On her study-abroad in Beijing 1986 with Senator Kristen Gillibrand: “You mean my roommate from China? The one I lip-synched a Madonna song with at the American Embassy?”

On her loss of the lead in Jerry Maguire to Renée Zellweger: “For the subsequent 10 years, it was probably the biggest heartbreak of my life.”

On her interview protocol: “I’m always honest in interviews, to a fault, really.”

On what it’s like to grow older: “There’s something really great, once you hit forty, about taking on something that fully flexes new and different muscles, because, man is it scary.”

On her famous hair: “It’s funny because every day people compliment me on it, I don’t have a Twitter feed, but I’m told my hair does. Apparently, there’s a blog – I haven’t seen it – about my hair.”

On where she finds herself today: “I think that I now know the importance of grace and sitting back. I have a deeper understanding of how most people are just trying to do the best they can.”

A-list actresses glammed up the Oscars red carpet on Sunday. Not only were their designer dresses the talk of the evening, but the stand out trend was beautiful brows. While some made the mark, others missed the cut. Celebrity brow stylist and Brow Police Joey Healy selects the hits and misses and reveals how to get these gorgeous looks.

I dreamed a dream of perfect eyebrows! The Les Miserables starlet and winner for Best Supporting Actress dazzled the red carpet with bold, brunette brows which worked perfectly to balance her short pixie cut. I would have loved to see her sweep those bangs aside even more, to really showcase her flawless, bold brows.

Adele’s brows definitely made the Skyfall (in a good way)! Winner for Best Original Song’s brow color perfectly complimented her sandy blonde locks and her beauty look is all about the eyes. I love this soft, yet finished brow to complete her look, it says "glamour" all the way.

Brow Architect Stylo in Wicker

With Charlize Theron’s newly cropped coif, there was no hiding those brows. She set her own trend for the evening, stepping away from thick, bushy brows, and went for a streamlined, elegant arch that work flawlessly with her bone structure. The ashy, taupe tone of her brows, really brings out the emerald green in her eyes.

Kerry Washington wowed the crowd with her luscious, thick brows. This Django Unchained actress looks like she just stepped off the New York Fashion Week runway. For someone with a prominent mouth, high cheek bones and large eyes, her brows harmoniously balanced the rest of her features. Her eyebrows play into her youthful appearance and enhance her fresh-faced look.

Brow Architect Stylo in Molasses |Brow Structure Clear Set

Jessica Chastain’s role in Zero Dark Thirty was all about the search, yet the search is still on for her eyebrows. To balance out her bold lip color, she needed a bold brow to keep her face in high/low proportion. She missed the mark on achieving a polished brow look and should have opted for a soft cinnamon powder.

Luxe Brow Powder in Equestrian | Duo Brow Brush

Oscar golden girl and Best Actress winner, Jennifer Lawrence looked like Hollywood royalty, although her brows were not the stars of her beauty look. While her Oscar nominated role was bold and daring, her brows did not follow the Playbook. Whisper light and thin, her eyebrows are not up to my standards of perfection.

Brow Architect Stylo in Wicker

Jennifer Garner showed support for hubby Ben Affleck on the red carpet, but her brows did not glam up her look. Jennifer’s eyebrows would benefit from being darker, especially with her light, airy makeup. Her shape is on-point, but the resulting brow looks patchy and sparse.

Luxe Brow Powder in Tobacco | Duo Brow Brush

Amanda Seyfried’s brows are so Miserables. The awkward, brassy tone is too light and looks disjointed from her hair color. A triumphant start to her shape sadly fizzles to an underwhelming tail; it looks as if she may have been too tweezer happy with the ends of her eyebrows. Her disappointing beauty look was simply not red carpet worthy.

Elliot Tiber

XM’s Brett Winterble interviews Taking Woodstock author Elliot Tiber tonight (at 10:00 PM PT-channel 166) and got him to reveal for the first time, that a third and final tome on Woodstock, penned by him, will be released in the summer … titled After Woodstock (via Square One Publishing).

Winterble, who called the Woodstock event a “touchstone of our generation,” at one point, asked him what memory remained with him the most from the legendary event in 1969. Tiber replied, “Richie Havens’ performance of ‘Freedom’ – it was what we wanted, we fought for, and though it didn’t happen right away, is finally starting to come true. Don't forget - the event was peace, love and music.”

Tiber also talked about his new book out this week called, Palm Trees On The Hudson, which is about his life in New York and his association with Judy Garland. “I had put together a show for a very famous judge … and, the talent was Garland. She gave me some advice then that I have never forgotten. Meeting one of my idols was amazing indeed.”

Liaisons: Reimagining Sondheim From The Piano

On Saturday, March 9 (7 pm), as part of Symphony Space’s The Music of Now Series, pianist Anthony de Mare returns to the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre for the second installment of Liaisons: Reimagining Sondheim from the Piano. Marrying his reputation as a champion of contemporary classical music with his deep respect for legendary musical theater composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim, de Mare is building a unique piano repertory by commissioning 36 leading contemporary composers from the classical, jazz, theater, and film worlds to write short solo piano pieces inspired by Sondheim’s music.

Anthony de Mare’s sold-out Symphony Space concert last April featured seventeen of the commissioned works, including pieces by Steve Reich, William Bolcom, Fred Hersch, and Marc-Anthony Turnage. On March 9, de Mare will premiere fifteen new compositions by Eve Beglarian, Jason Robert Brown, Mary Ellen Childs, Michael Daugherty, Peter Golub, Annie Gosfield, Phil Kline, Nico Muhly, John Musto, Thomas Newman, Eric Rockwell, Frederic Rzweski, Rodney Sharman, Bernadette Speach, and Nils Vigeland. The works draw on famous and lesser-known Sondheim songs from Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Follies, Company, and other shows.

The evening will include an on-stage discussion with Stephen Sondheim, led by Mark Eden Horowitz, author of the critically acclaimed Sondheim on Music. Film clips of the composers speaking about Liaisons will be interspersed throughout the program. Tickets are $55, $47 for members, $15 for those under 30. A complete program list appears below.

This project marks the first time that Sondheim songs have been formally adapted for solo piano. With Sondheim’s blessing, de Mare selected a remarkable and diverse roster of composers from around the world to re-imagine a Sondheim song of their choosing, resulting in a wide variety of settings. “It is aesthetically fulfilling to hear composers take my music and treat it seriously,” said Sondheim, himself a student of seminal composer Milton Babbitt, during an onstage interview at last year’s Symphony Spaceconcert.

Contributing composers represent varying genres of music including: jazz (Fred Hersch, Ethan Iverson); contemporary classical (Frederic Rzewski, Phil Kline, Mason Bates, Mary Ellen Childs, Derek Bermel, Andy Akiho); pop/classical hybrid (Nico Muhly, Gabriel Kahane, Daniel Bernard Roumain, Jherek Bischoff); opera (Mark-Anthony Turnage, John Musto, Jake Heggie); musical theater (Ricky Ian Gordon, Jason Robert Brown, Eric Rockwell); film (Peter Golub, Thomas Newman) and more. LIAISONS also includes works by Pulitzer Prize-winners William Bolcom, Steve Reich, Michael Daugherty and Paul Moravec, Academy Award-winners Thomas Newman and David Shire, TONY Award-winner Jason Robert Brown, and Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik.

De Mare encouraged the composers to choose whichever song most compelled them, with the only criteria being a maximum length of 10 minutes and adherence to the song’s basic melodic material. Composers put their own spin on recognizable classics like Send in the Clowns, The Ballad of Sweeney Todd and Being Alive, to name a few, but also on lesser-known works including Sorry-Grateful, Someone in a Tree and A Bowler Hat, among others. “Each piece represents a totally unique union of the composer’s individual style with Sondheim’s underlying substance,” comments de Mare. “These aren’t songs without words—they are complete musical compositions in their own right that reveal Sondheim’s unparalleled capacity for melody and musical architecture.” A full recording of the project is underway, produced by Judith Sherman, for release in spring 2014. Further details are available HERE.

Katie Couric With Patricia Cornwell

In her first television interview since a federal court awarded her more than $50 million in damages after she sued her former financial advisors for mismanagement, best-selling crime writer Patricia Cornwell talks with Katie Couric about how the courtroom drama unfolded. The author, who has sold over 100 million books, also opens up about her childhood – including her relationship with Reverend Billy Graham and his late wife – how she began writing crime novels, and what she has learned in the process. This episode will broadcast today, Wednesday, February 27th.

Following are exclusive advance excerpts from this show:

Patricia Cornwell on when she discovered her finances were out of order:

Katie Couric: “When did you realize your financial house was completely out of order, if you will?”

Patricia Cornwell: “Well, for the last couple of years before we left this particular company, it seemed that no matter what I did I never had any more money. I mean, I kept thinking how can I earn this much money and there’s just, it’s not accumulating in any sort of way. And I began to be very confused by that and very concerned. In fact, I even went so far to say, ya know, money’s just not worth what it used to be, it must be that. But, ya know, I was getting paid an enormous amount of money for my books and I just didn’t understand why there wasn’t a lot in the bank. I was starting gettin’ just extremely scared.”

Patricia Cornwell on incorporating this experience into a future book:

KC: “What would you say is the lesson you’ve learned from all of this?”

PC: “Pay attention to your own business even if you’re not good at it. Make sure you have people around you, you can trust. And, don’t have everything resting on one person. You should make sure that everybody’s kind of looking over ev- each person’s shoulder.”

KC: “Is, Is there a book in the works about this whole ordeal?”

PC: “Well, I think Scarpetta may find there is some financial mismanagement that could be motive for a crime, in the next book that I’m working on right now.”

KC: “And, and, and, and not everyone…”

PC: “And she’ll win too!”
