As summer kicked into gear this year, my incredibly talented friend and devout citizen, BD Wong hosted an unforgettable evening at his NYC apartment. The night was an intimate gathering for a conversation between himself and Zachary Quinto to benefit an organization recognized as one of the premier arts education programs in New York City, Rosie’s Theater Kids.

Rosie’s Theater Kids (RTKids) is a not-for-profit performing arts organization dedicated to transforming the lives of inner-city public school children by way of a unique combination of programs in dance, music and drama free of charge.

Since it’s founding in 2003, through thoughtful mentoring and structured academic guidance, RTKids has inspired excellence, motivated learning and enriched the lives of over 15,000 lower income public school students, many of whom live in environments with no support system available to them at all. It instills a sense of purpose and positively changes the trajectory of these students' lives.

After attending the evening with BD and Zachary, I was invited to RTKids’ Marvel Arts Center in the heart of midtown to spend a day with the kids as they engaged in their summer school curriculum and rehearsed for the upcoming 10th Anniversary Gala on September 25. I witnessed, first hand, the staff of RTKids transform unbridled energy and enthusiasm into self-confidence, drive, and direction. And that day will remain one of the most inspiring experiences of my summer, if not my year. Watch the video HERE.
