DOMINICK LIVE --- Long Island’s own Dominick Dipietrantonio has just launched his new web site and is back in the studio working on his debut album. Dom, who wrote the song, “Only One For Me” for Courtney Zito’s web-series Hollywood Girl, is writing more music for the show as well. The song has been running on the show for the past several months, creating major industry buzz. The show, scripted by Zito, is based on her real life experiences (both comic and blundering) in Hollywood. She plays Quinn Monroe, a self-proclaimed cliche (aspiring actress by day and waitress by night). According to Dom, “I really love the whole concept of the show and was immediately drawn to writing songs for it.” And, regarding his forthcoming album, “Having finally gotten to the point of creating my own album, I want to really give it everything. Sure, they’ll be upbeat material, but I really want to feature everything that’s going on inside my head.” Sessions are underway and a fall-release is expected.

BCEFA’s EASTER BONNET --- I had the pleasure of attending the 27th Annual East Bonnet Competition yesterday at the Minskoff Theatre. It’s hard to believe that the event first started in the basement of the Palace Theatre with a few colorful hats created by the original cast of La Cage Aux Follies. It’s become one of the signature events from BECFA; spearheaded by Broadway Cares’ terrific Tom Viola. Kate Finnernan and Billy Porter brilliantly started off the proceedings; followed by Robert Cuccioli and Judy McLane. Short. The audience was treated to short performance by the casts of Once, Avenue Q, Mamma Mia! ; a terrific mash-up/smack down performance from the casts of Newsies and Annie. Chicago and The Lion King, followed, as well as Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Kinky Boots as well. I must say that the rather ribald dialogue was perfectly delivered and quite funny – everything from a dig or two at NBC’s Smash and the recently silenced Breakfast At Tiffany’s. A tremendously satisfying afternoon with special kudos to Seth Rudetsky, Marin Mazzie and Ann Harada. Their second and final performance is today.

DAVE MASON --- Dave Mason, from the mid-80’s hit “We Just Disagree” is one frustrating artist; immensely talented, terrific musician and writer; but, vastly underrated … he’s put out some absolutely stunning albums (1970’s Alone Together) and some really tacky, awful ones (1987’s Some Assembly Required) … yet, his live show can be a 100% brilliant evening, or just so-so. He had this terrific second guitarist back in the day, Jim Kreuger (who actually wrote “Disagree” – and, it apparently always irked Dave to have to perform the song) and when he passed away, Dave toured and toured for years and finally released a new album five years back, 26 Letters 12 Notes, which purported to be his comeback album … but, one you could never find on the shelves. He’s been a member of Fleetwood Mac for three years; inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, due to his stint in his first major super group, Traffic, but has poor, poor taste in some creative decisions. To quote an acquaintance … “Dave’s an old pirate.” After having more than his fair shares of managers (including the Moke, Jason Cooper), he’s now signed with Bruce Garfield-who worked with Mica Paris …. Heard of her lately? He’s a star for sure!
