  The 9/11 Truck

The New York City Police Department allowed the alleged 9/11 fraud truck to scam everyone in Times Square.

Thomas J. Scalgione, 40, of Manahawkin and Mark Anthony Niemczyk, 66, of Tinton Falls were accused this week of promoting a bogus 9/11 victims' charity by driving around in a pickup truck painted with the names of first responders who perished.

For months now, on a regular basis this truck has been parked in Times Square, collecting money and selling stuff. And the New York City Police Department allowed this, even after two complaints from me.

This truck would park in pedestrian walkways, the police would even take down the plastic barriers to let this truck park, right in the middle of Times Square. Twice I complained, because I could not get through the crowd and it was getting to be a bother everytime I went to the bank, this truck was there, blocking my access to move around quickly. First of all it is not right for any charity, real or not real to setup shop right in Times Square without permits. Second of all, the police have no right to just decide to allow this.

The two times I spoke up, I always got some rude cop who told me to mind my business. The second time, I asked the cop to check if they had permits, the cop told me not to tell him how to do his job and told me to move along. When I continued to insist that this truck should not be parked there, that it was parked in pedestrian walkways, impairing me from doing my errands, I was told I was blocking the people and to move along or else. Angry pedestrians were yelling at me to mind my business and one called me heartless.

 Mary Chapin Carpenter

Mary Chapin Carpenter is among the most talented singer/songwriters in America. She has won 5 Grammys in Country Music categories, topped the country charts and sold over 12 million records without ever considering herself a country artist. Songstress Tift Merritt is a North Carolina native, who also plays guitar and piano. She has built a unique and critically acclaimed body of work of sonic short stories and poignant performances. Don't miss them live at bergenPAC, Wednesday, August 15th at 8PM. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com or bergenPAC.org or by calling the box office at 201 227 1030.

Mary Chapin Carpenter is a powerful singer whose songs have a searing ring of truth. She hits the mark with her intelligent lyrics both on fast paced country rock songs alternating with slow introspective ballads. The troubadour’s new Ashes and Roses album ranks as her most powerful in years, perhaps even her strongest ever. Ashes and Roses is a record about grief and loss, but it has an arc. It does go from night into day. It travels through some of the hardest, most difficult territory to a place of renewal. It speaks to that journey as it tries to describe what is seen and felt and experienced along the way. And one does get to the other side.

 Larry Stevens

One of music’s best-kept secrets has been LARRY STEVENS. Over the course of three, now four, CDs, Stevens has successfully maneuvered between rock, pop, folk and country and created a crowd pleasing, radio-friendly sound that’s been continually embraced by the music community. On his latest release, Mercer Street, he’s joined by some of the best musicians around, including keyboardist George Small (who worked on John & Yoko’s Double Fantasy album) and drummer, Liberty Devito, who made his mark with his extensive work with Billy Joel. Says Stevens, “It’s definitely the best work I've done; working with musicians of that caliber brought everything to a nice level; they made me work harder and the results speak for themselves. We named the record for the studio we recorded the album at … Mercer Street.”

Stevens has also played at such diverse clubs as Iridium, the Blue Bird Café, the Bitter End, and, NJ Pac, where this Friday he'll open for the legendary Blood, Sweat and Tears. “To open for such a successful group (10 Grammy nominations and three wins) is a huge honor. I've loved them since I first heard them. It'll be a tremendous thrill.”

He’s performed there previously, with the likes of The Doobie Brothers, Kenny Loggins, Huey Lewis & The News, and Foreigner.

Stevens is tentatively set for a major tour in the fall in support of Mercer Street.

Howard Stern

The feud between 83-year old comic PAT COOPER and HOWARD STERN shows no signs of diminishing.

On BRETT WINTERBLE'S Sirius/XM talk show (who is tub-thumping his book How Dare You Say How Dare Me! - Square One Publishers), the comedian continued to savage Stern, talking about everything from America's Got Talent to the recent passing of his dog. Cooper said he can't believe Stern is on Americas Got Talent: “He doesn't know talent … because he doesn't have any talent!”

He also had choice words for Hillary and Bill Clinton, President Obama and Mitt Romney. He said Mitt’s biggest problem is that “He’s surrounded by his money.”

 Leilani Münter

Leilani Münter, professional race car driver and environmental activist, has announced her support for the Code REDD Campaign and its mission to make forests more valuable alive than dead through the Voluntary Carbon Market. Münter, a biology graduate who has long been known as ‘The Carbon Free Girl,’ will offset her unavoidable emissions from racing through Wildlife Works Carbon LLC, one of the approved REDD+ projects in the Code REDD Campaign that generates high quality Verified Emissions Reductions (VERs), or carbon credits.

“We are in a race against deforestation” Leilani affirmed, adding that “in the time it takes me to finish one race, 7,500 acres of forest will be lost to deforestation” Since 2007, Münter has adopted an acre of rainforest for every race she runs, and with this new effort she hopes to bring greater awareness to the public about Code REDD, a radical new campaign that is using the power of the marketplace to stop deforestation, protect wildlife, and provide real sustainable development opportunities for forest communities.

“Deforestation accounts for more than 17% of annual global CO2 emissions, more than the entire global transportation sector,” said Karin Burns, Executive Director of the Code REDD Campaign. “We are thrilled to partner with Leilani who exemplifies the spirit of the Code REDD campaign and through her actions can reach an audience of millions.” Today, 18 of the top 20 highest attendance sporting events in the United States are auto races.

A video highlighting Münter’s support for the Code REDD Campaign will be aired for 4 days from Thursday July 26th - Sunday July 29th at the entrance to the Indianapolis Speedway’s NASCAR Brickyard 400 Super Weekend. Race car fans are encouraged to learn more about Leilani Münter’s commitment to Code REDD and ways they can get involved by going to: www.coderedd.com/leilani

All this frenetic sexual activity will be enacted by an eclectic group of 14 actors and actresses, in a multi-media landscape involving pre-recorded and live-feed video; explosive music from two composers (one from Bristol, UK and one from Hong Kong); high-energy choreography, and a full-scale environmental manipulation of the entire venue. .

Kristen Stewart

Robert Pattinson
This weeks exclusive cover story from the new issue of Us Weekly, is about Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson with director Rupert Sanders. Robert Pattinson's biggest fear has been realized. On July 17th, the 26-year-old actor's girlfriend and Twilight costar, Kristen Stewart, 22, was caught in a series of steamy rendezvous with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, 41 -- and only Us Weekly has the photographic evidence. Sanders -- married to British Vogue model Liberty Ross, 33 -- has two children, ages 7 and 5. During his marathon makeout session with Stewart, "it seemed like they couldn't get enough," according to one photographer. Reps for both Stewart and Sanders had no comment.

Also included are the details about Bachelorette Emily Maynard’s secret night with runner-up Arie Luyendyk days before accepting a proposal from Jef Holm. Despite Maynard’s on-air claim that she wouldn’t allow overnight dates because she’s “a mother and a role model,” the source says she and Arie did get intimate in their fantasy suite. Naturally, the smoldering Scottsdale, Arizona, race car driver, 30, was furious to learn that same week he wasn’t receiving Maynard’s final rose. “He stormed off,” says the source. “He screamed, ‘You just slept with me!’ It wasn’t shown on TV.”

KATY & JOHN: Their Hot Nights Out!

Perry and Mayer get close during back-to-back dates

Katy Perry

John Mayer
Katy Perry’s last Friday night was a memorable one: She spent it with John Mayer! Days after her divorce from Russell Brand was finalized, she joined the singer July 19 at West Hollywood’s Soho House. “They were affectionate, holding hands and cuddling!” says a witness. The duo had an encore the next night, when the Montana-based crooner, 34, shared pizza with Perry, 27, at her house. If it all seems a little rushed, consider that Perry — also casually seeing musician Robert Ackroyd — has had a thing for Mayer for years. An onlooker recalls a flirtfest at NYC’s Goldbar on September 11, 2009, when “she made it her mission to hook up with him.” However, they left separately — then Perry hit it off with Brand the very next day. While Mayer’s rep says “they are not dating,” Perry is plowing ahead. Says the insider, “She nailed down her crush!”

JOHNNY & VANESSA: Family Reunion

Vanessa Paradis
Amicable exes! On July 18, just one month after announcing the end of their 14-year partnership, Johnny Depp, 49, and Vanessa Paradis, 39, reunited at their $5 million mansion in the South of France with their kids, Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 10. “They were both relieved they got along well,” says a source close to the pair. When the clan ventured to the nearby Plan de la Tour market on July 19, “they were joking around,” local Sofia DeCout tells Hot Stuff. “At one point, Johnny held Vanessa’s hand!” Despite the sweet gesture, Depp and Paradis won’t reconcile (and, a source adds, he’s still dating Amber Heard). Says the insider, “They are looking forward, not backward.”

Scott’s Back on the Scene

Scott Disick

Scott Disick is keeping up with his cocktails! On July 22 — while Kourtney Kardashian, 33, was home with their 2-week-old baby, Penelope — Disick, 29, was partying poolside at Miami Beach’s Delano Hotel. Says a witness, “He was chatting with models!”

Tiger Woods

Being a mom has changed me,” says Rachel Uchitel, whose affair with Tiger Woods ignited the 2009 scandal that destroyed his six-year marriage to Elin Nordegren. “I’m more focused on my daughter now than I am on myself.” The NYC club hostess turned San Francisco party planner, 37, tells Us that baby Wyatt — born May 15 to her and her husband, insurance broker Matt Hahn — has already helped her put a racy past in perspective. “I have moved on,” says the Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew alum. Not that she won’t be open about her history when Wyatt is old enough to understand. “I have a plethora of life experience that I will absolutely discuss with her,” says Uchitel. “Because, frankly, every right and wrong turn I’ve made has made me who I am. I’m thankful for all of my experiences.”

Tony Lo Bianco In The Little Flower

“The Little Flower” is an educational, inspirational and at times comedic one-man show set in the office of Fiorello H. La Guardia, during his last day as three-term Mayor of New York City in 1945. The show stars Tony Lo Bianco.

“The Little Flower” presents a historic look into the life and career of Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia - a courageous and flamboyant personality, who read comics to the children during a newspaper strike, fought against corruption and cleaned up city politics setting a new standard for mayors and politicians in America. He was a great statesman and champion of the poor and under privileged, and a father figure to millions of Americans living through the hard times of the 1930’s and 1940’s. La Guardia was a man of integrity with outstanding principles, morals and values whose voice resonated throughout America. He was steadfast in standing up for his beliefs regardless of obstacles, challenges or political agenda.

The show is set in “present time-1945” and “flashbacks.” Chronologically, it re-enacts important events in La Guardia’s life and the lessons he learned. It moves colorfully through the first half of the 20th century in America, and provides a clear vision of a man who not only lived through those times, but helped shape them. The problems La Guardia faced parallel those we are facing now. He held strong convictions on family values, inflation, women’s suffrage, financial responsibility, education, unions, political corruption and prohibition. He transcended political party barriers while holding strong to his plan of action that served him well then and could serve the American people today!

This adaptation is enlightening and inspirational. His legacy will live on forever!

"The Little Flower" about Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia is performing at the Dicapo Theater on E. 76th St. between 3rd Ave and Lexington Ave from October 23rd through November 2nd. You can get tickets HERE.

Each week, the show pits homegrown talents against three professional chefs as they cook the same dish—from firehouse chili to Grandma’s famous chicken and dumplings—with one question in mind: Whose tastes the best? A panel of critics will judge and decide if the amateurs can “beat the chefs.” Hosted by American Idol finalist Matt Rogers (“Coming Home,”) BEAT THE CHEFS is produced by RelativityREAL, with Tom Forman (“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”) and Brian A. Veskosky (“Deal or No Deal,” “Don’t Forget the Lyrics,” “Fear Factor”) serving as Executive Producers.

The BEAT THE CHEFS cast members include:

Tommy Lee Jones
With more than forty years of experience and four Oscars® between them, Hollywood legends Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones are coming together for the first time in the highly anticipated Hope Springs, a film about the often taboo subject of mid-life sexuality and a couple embarking on an entertaining yet poignant adventure to regain their sexual passion. In an exclusive interview for the August/September issue of AARP The Magazine, the indomitable icons speak about their upcoming project, their newly discovered passions, finally learning to live for the moment, and why “nobody can tell [them] anything.”

On being “bored” in a relationship:

Streep: “If you’re bored with somebody, it’s because you’re bored with yourself. If you have a problem with somebody, often it’s something in yourself.”

Jones: “I always told my children when they whined….Only the boring are bored.”

On finding passion at any age:

Streep: “I find the older I get, the more intense my appetite for living and for appreciating life gets…You realize you’ve got just seconds.”

Jones: “I don’t do anything that is not fun. I just don’t do it. I’m a hedonist.”
