ABC'S SAM CHAMPION WEDS RUBEM ROBIERB

Sam Champion and Rubem Robierb wed

ABC News weather editor and "GMA" anchor Sam Champion and Rubem Robierb wed in an intimate ceremony at Champion’s New York City apartment Friday afternoon. They were surrounded by friends, family and Champion’s fellow “GMA” anchors. Robierb’s mother and sisters even Skyped in from Brazil to be a part of the special day.

N.Y. State Supreme Court Justice George J. Silver conducted the ceremony, which lasted about 10 minutes. Robin Roberts also played a part in the nuptials, reading a beautiful poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

Earlier in the day on “GMA,” Champion spoke about the big day. When Lara Spencer asked him if he was nervous, he replied, “The whole family is at the house right now, so I should be able to walk in and have everything [done].” Though he didn’t divulge any details, Champion joked about the first dance song. “Is ‘Stairway to Heaven’ out of the question? That was the ‘70s love song.”

He also received some advice from his married co-stars. George Stephanopoulos advised him to “remember every second” and Elizabeth Vargas seconded that notion. “Be present in every single moment,” she said. “As big as today is, it’s the rest of your life that is really amazing.”

Champion and Robierb met through mutual friends a few years ago in Miami, where Robierb lives. Born in Brazil, Robierb is an artist who shows his work in Miami, Atlanta, Santa Monica and New York. The two announced their engagement in October.

The newlyweds plan to have a party in Miami December 31 to further celebrate their nuptials.
