After his triumphant concert at NYC’s B. B. King’s last week; which was recorded for his first-ever DVD (actor Tony Danza was in the audience, cheering him on!), Micky Dolenz rebounded to California and taped a two-hour interview with actor Kevin Pollak, on his talk show, The Kevin Pollack Chat Show, wherein he talked about his new album, Remember, and elaborated on each song; a re-arranged“Sugar, Sugar” – which Dolenz revealed could well have been a track for The Monkees. Dolenz says that at first he was somewhat reluctant to re-do it, but when he heard producer David Harris’ new arrangement, he was immediately enticed. He says it’s now his favorite track on the album. He also talked about a re-arranged Monkee-track, “Randy Scouse Git” that has become a fas radio favorite from the album. It’s a track he wrote about his exploits in England, when he first met The Beatles. The Beatles’ song “Good Morning Good Morning” is also featured on the album; a well as the story chronicled in the extensive liner notes written by the artist himself.

Also, included for fans, are several rare photos, including the history-making photo of John Lennon, Anne Murray, Harry Nilsson, Alice Cooper and Dolenz, from L. A.’s Troubadour club, where the foursome ventured out to see her show.

Also discussed is The Monkees ground-breaking film Head, written by a young-B-movie star, at the time, named Jack Nicholson. Dolenz tells the behind-the-scenes story of the making of the film.

He also spoke about his extensive work for the BBC as a director after The Monkees TV-series ceased and his work on a stage version of Bugsy Malone, which featured a then-unknown 14-year old Welsh-actress named Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Dolenz also spoke about the forthcoming Monkees-tour, featuring Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, that gets underway next week in Escondido, California. The 14-date tour ends on December 2, with a show at NYC’s Beacon Theatre.

Also, Micky, who portrayed Wilbur Turnblad in the West End presentation of Hairspray, will join Broadway vets Nick Adams, Marissa Perry, Tony winner Beth Leavel, and, Hairspray-movie director John Waters in a concert version of the hit musical with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Featuring music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Thomas Meehan and the late Mark O’Donnell, the Hairspray concert will take place January 26 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, Maryland. 

The concert is in honor of the original Hairspray film’s 25th anniversary.
