 As if being a celebrity didn’t have enough perks, the new Guinness World Records 2013 edition reveals some of the greatest aspects of being a star in record-breaking fashion! Hitting shelves on September 13th, the book features a wide variety of headline-stealing artists ranging from stars like Justin Bieber to legendary icons like Madonna and Meryl Streep. ”Beliebers” can rejoice with Justin Bieber as he earned the title of ‘Youngest Solo Artist to Have Three No 1 Albums’ for his three chart-topping US albums all released before his 18th birthday. These include My World 2.0 (April 10, 2010), Never Say Never: The Remixes (March 5, 2011); and Under the Mistletoe, (19 November 2011), the first Christmas album by a male artist to debut at No.1 in the 55-year history of the US albums chart.

  The daughter of musical superstars BeyoncĂ© and Jay-Z, Blue Ivy Carter made the record books mere days after her January 7th, 2012 birth. Her “breathing, cries and coos” on her father’s track “Glory” debuted on the US R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, earning her the title of “Youngest Person to Appear on a Billboard Chart.” Pop phenomenon, Lady Gaga created the ‘Fastest selling US digital album’ with Born This Way selling 1.1 million copies in its first week. Cementing her legacy, the Queen of Pop, Madonna captured the attention of a record 114 million people when they tuned in to watch her perform the half-time show at Super Bowl XLVI, staged at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana on February 5, 2012. According to viewing figures, the performance, which also included appearances from British rapper M.I.A. and hip-hop star Nicki Minaj, attracted more viewers than the game itself and became the ‘Most Watched Program in U.S. Television History.’



Other standout musical records gracing the pages of the 2013 edition include:



o Rihanna has become the ‘Best-selling Digital Artist (US)’ selling an incredible 47.57 million digital tracks in the US during her career. The 24-year-old singer beat The Black Eyed Peas (42.4 million career digital sales), Eminem (42.29 million), Lady Gaga (42.08 million) and Taylor Swift (41.82 million).




o Katy Perry is the ‘First Female to Hold Five No. 1 US Singles from One Album.’ Her reign over the singles charts included “Last Friday Night (TGIF) followed by California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” Firework” and “E.T”



o Grammy-winning American rapper Lil Wayne (b. Dwayne Carter, Jr, aka ‘Weezy’) placed an unprecedented 12 tracks simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 on 17 September 2011. ‘Weezy’ scored eight new entries to add to his four existing Hot 100 entries in the same week his “Tha Carter IV” album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200.



o American Idol winner for its 10th season, Scotty McCreery makes history as the ‘Youngest Male to Enter US Albums Chart at No. 1’ when he made his albums chart bow with Clear as Day on October 22, 2011. He is also the first country artist to enter at No. 1 with a debut studio album.



On the small screen, David Hasselhoff nabbed the record for ‘Most Watched Man on TV.’ Since his break on Knight Rider in 1982, man on television of all time. Having first come to public attention as Michael Knight in the popular US series Knight Rider, he went on to star as LA County Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon in the series Baywatch, which at its 1996 peak had an estimated weekly audience of 1.1 billion viewers.



Honoring excellence in theatre, Guinness World Records recognizes the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “The Phantom of the Opera” as the Longest-Running Show in the History of Broadway —Musical or Play—having reached the milestone of 10,000 performances at the Majestic Theatre as of February 2012. This designation previously belonged to the musical, CATS, also composed by the legendary Webber and which reached its 7, 485th performance on September 10th, 2000.



Commenting on his achievement, Webber stated, "I am absolutely thrilled that "The Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway has made it into the Guinness World Records 2013 Edition. I would like to thank the performers, musicians and crew who have worked on the show over the years and the millions of fans who have come to see it. "Phantom" is the longest-running show in the history of Broadway and celebrates its twenty-fifth birthday next year; that makes me immensely proud."


Finally, Guinness World Records is recognizing silver screen icon, Meryl Streep with her record for the ‘Most Oscar Nominations for an Actress’. Streep has been nominated for an Academy Award a record 17 times. She’s won three of them, including the 2012 Best Actress for playing former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the Iron Lady. A previous heir to this record category was Katharine Hepburn, who was nominated for 12 Oscars between 1932 and 1981.
