When Houston was a young girl growing up in Newark, New Jersey, she saw the original film version of 'Sparkle,' with Irene Cara in the starring role and her interest was indeed sparked!

In her final film role, as the character Sparkle's world-weary mother, finally Whitney Houston has come full circle. It is a fond and fitting farewell to a true singing legend. Her dynamic acting with Jordin Sparks is totally compelling onscreen.

It makes you wonder just what Whitney was capable of in the future. It is a fitting send off.”
