PLAN!T NOW (P!N), the international disaster preparedness non-profit, announces Dennis Haysbert as its newest celebrity advocate. Along with Kenny Chesney, long time-P!N spokesperson, and other celebrity messengers, Haysbert will help grow awareness for the organization’s causes and lead the charge for a weather ready nation in this next year. Haysbert is most recently known for his role as President David Palmer in the hit TV drama “24” and as the face of Allstate. “As an avid diver and native Californian, I have serious concerns about coastal erosion and other natural disasters that occur post storms. There are many things that we can do to keep people and resources safer in advance of these severe weather hazards,” says Haysbert. “I am honored to be a part of the PLAN!T NOW team and help to educate our youth in this nation and other nations about the importance of severe weather hazards preparedness.”

As part of the organization’s efforts to increase awareness to children, P!N has also teamed up with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Weather Service (NWS), the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Education Association (NEA) to produce The Young Meteorologist Program (YMP). The program is a free online computer game that educates and empowers children about severe-weather science, weather confidence and safety.

“It’s imperative we teach our youth about the importance of disaster preparedness,” says Ron Gird, National Weather Service Outreach Program Manager. “YMP offers a fun and interactive way to get our message across. We are excited that Mr. Haysbert has joined forces with P!N to help get the message out about preparedness and its importance.”
