Hurricane Irene continues to force people to evacuate. Cherry Grove has been boarded up, everything from Cherry's On The Bay, to our favorite hotel Dune Point. Our roving Fire Island reporter and master photographer, Petra Brehl took these shots while everyone was preparing to leave the island for higher ground.
Belvedere's Craig Eberhardt didn't waste anytime securing the hotels priceless antiques as was the case in every business there. Top Of The Bay, one of the finer restaurants on the island, boarded up and prepared to leave. Even famed New York City and Fire Island Entertainer Porsche, packed up her gowns and high heals and headed to the mainland.
We hear about a dozen residents have stayed there, including Bobby Lerch, who is also one of the few who stay there year round. We think Bobby has seen it all and we hope he braves Hurricane Irene well.
