NIK WALLENDA'S TROPICANA HIGH WIRE FETE

Nik Wallenda

Nik Wallenda, a seventh generation member of the legendary “Flying Wallendas” circus family, is scheduled to kick off the Spring Break season with two death-defying stunts at Tropicana Casino & Resort on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Wallenda, a “Daredevil for the 21st century” will perform a high wire walk across Fiesta Plaza in The Quarter at 11 a.m. He will then perform on the “Wheel of Death,” at 4 p.m., from atop the 23rd story of the South Tower of Tropicana.

The “Wheel of Death” is large rotating apparatus on which highly-skilled performers execute acrobatic feats. It is essentially a 50 foot steel frame with an 8 foot wheel at one end. Wallenda will perform stunts both on the inside and outside of the wheel as the entire 50 foot apparatus rotates.

Wallenda’s April 29 stunt at Tropicana will be the first time a “Wheel of Death” stunt has ever been performed from off the side of a building. In addition, the “Wheel of Death” has never been performed at this height, also a world record.

“This is an amazing opportunity for people to witness two phenomenal stunts in one day by a completely unique and thrilling artist ,” said Mark Giannantonio, President and CEO, Tropicana Casino and Resort. “All eyes will be on this legendary performer, the Tropicana Casino and Atlantic City during these exhilarating feats.” He added.

Nik Wallenda set a Guinness World Record in October 15, 2008, for the longest distance and greatest height ever traveled by bicycle on a high wire live on the Today Show.

He has since broken both of those Guinness Records at the Atlantis in Nassau, the Bahamas, in August 2010.

“ For years, I have wanted to perform on the “Wheel of Death ” from atop an amazing building in an iconic location,” commented Nik Wallenda. “The chance to do this at the Tropicana in Atlantic City is a huge dream come true for both the challenge and the beauty of the location.” Wallenda added.

Atlantic City visitors can witness the “Wheel of Death” from the Boardwalk or beaches adjacent to the Tropicana. The stunt will be filmed by Relativity Real Productions for a new television documentary series that will premiere in summer of 2011. Both stunts are free and open to the public.
