Get ready for an Empire like you’ve never seen before. At a press conference yesterday, Miss’d America Pageant officials, GLBT Alliance Board members, tourism officials, and others announced details for the 2011 Miss’d America Pageant to take place on Sunday, January 16, beginning at 8 p.m. in Atlantic City’s Historic Boardwalk Hall. The theme of 2011’s pageant will be Boardwalk Empress, with set details and production numbers to mimic a 1920’s Atlantic City speakeasy, and will feature Erika Schiff and the Miss’d America Dancers, as well as many former Miss’d Americas. Carson Kressley, host of ABC’s “True Beauty” and Bravo’s “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy,” will serve as host, along with co-host Robert "Sandy Beach" Hitchen and Miss’d America 2010 Miss Michelle Dupree (Scott Cooper). Judges of the pageant were also announced (with more to be announced at a later date). They include: Michael Musto – New York’s Village Voice, entertainment reporter and returning judge Vicki Gold Levi – Atlantic City Historian and author Diane Mitchell – Radio personality, 95.1 WAYV, and returning judge Mark Segal – Editor of the Philadelphia Gay News and returning judge. A contest search is now open through Monday, November 15, 2010 for the next Miss’d America. Competition categories include swimsuit, evening gown, talent and judges’ interview. Eight contestants will be chosen.
Along with the crown, the 2011 Miss’d America winner will receive $1,000, a three day/four night getaway, and other prizes.
