Jack Armstrong

Cosmic artist Jack Armstrong has painted a Harley Davidson that will be unveiled at a gala event October 21 at Bartels' Harley-Davidson in Marina Del Rey, California. Armstrong, of whom Andy Warhol said, "After I am gone you will be the last wizard," believes he has a power to create that is, somehow, tied to the stars, the cosmos and, for the record, that is why he says he is a "cosmic artist." The uniqueness of this project comes from the simple fact that this is the first Harley ever to be painted by any artist. It will sell for $1.1 million. A portion of the sale price will go to Desert ARC, an organization in Palm Springs (Armstrong's home) that serves the developmentally disabled. Why a Harley? Armstrong recalls, "I rode my first Harley in Chicago outside the Drake Hotel and I was hooked! Magic! A legendary machine! Sitting on my first Harley it was sex, drugs and rock and roll. I thought I was Keith Richards, James Dean and Steve McQueen. I found that the Harley rider is plugged into a different kind of current. The way the girls look at you, you are a movie star. "

And, speaking of stars, many of those who are Harley fans are customers of Bill Bartels' at his dealership. They have been invited to the October 21 event. For information, visit www.bartelsharley.com and www.jackarmstrongartist.com.
