PULITZER PRIZE WINNER FRANK MCCOURT DIES

Frank McCourt


Frank McCourt, the former public school teacher who enjoyed fame as the author of "Angela's Ashes," the Pulitzer Prize-winning "epic of woe" about his very poor Irish childhood, died Sunday of cancer. McCourt was 78. The writer had been very ill with meningitis and recently was treated for melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. He died at a Manhattan hospice, his brother Malachy McCourt said. The author sold more than 10 million copies of his books.

Too many of the gifted and talented are slipping past this life this year. I am sorry he went in the pain and misery the illnesses bring.
