Over 400 New Yorkers came out to celebrate Solar 1’s annual “Revelry By The River”: The evening was to benefit and build enthusiasm, awareness and help raise funds needed to break ground in 2009 for Solar 2, a replacement for Solar 1 Green Energy, Arts and Education Center in New York City. Solar 2, (www.solar1.org) will be the first Platinum LEED certified public building in the city to leave a “zero carbon footprint”. It will generate more energy than it consumes, becoming a prototype for many major cities in this country. The Solar One’s Honorees were HSBC, for their leadership role in addressing climate change, Matthew Modine, for his environmental activism and “Bicycle for a Day” program and Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy received the Young Environmentalist Award for her work on behalf of Waterkeeper.
