ED BASS TO DIRECT BELLE GUNNESS MOVIE

Producer ED BASS (BOBBY) has locked in his debut directorial effort with BELLE; the story of Belle Gunness, America's most prolific female serial killer. Working mostly from her farm base in La Porte County, Indiana, around the turn of the 20th century, Gunness left a trail of buried bodies as she allegedly killed her husbands and dozens to whom she wrote love letters to, and who arrived there with fat wallets. Several of her stepchildren mysteriously disappeared as well."It's not a who-done-it, as much as a why-done-it", says Bass. "It's a classic theme; a woman looking for love and never quite being satisfied ... and, when she does find it, it eludes her."Bass, who has been located on lower-Broadway in a never-ending loft for the past several years, has several other projects in motion too. A script called PONZI, about Charles Ponzi, one of the greatest swindlers of all time. "The time seemed perfect for the telling of this story." Bass wrote the working script; he’s also writing THE HUNT with Jeremy Workman that he's producing in association with Michael Mailer. Just back from Los Angeles, where he had a memorable meeting at the famed Polo Lounge with Jesse Jackson, Jr. and Sr., Bass leaves for Cannes later in the week.

This is the second piece I've read about Edward Bass' directorial debut "Belle." If you're looking for a great article, including a more recent interview with the golden globe nominated producer, check out the following site from yesterday's La Porte newspaper. The more I read, the more I want Angelina Jolie or Kate Winslet to play "Belle." http://heraldargus.com/main.asp?FromHome=1&TypeID=1&ArticleID=130505&SectionID=4&SubSectionID=4.

Say what?? Kathy Bates should be the only one considered for the part. She has the look, the stature...Belle was not a beauty, and she was NOT "looking for love". She was a cold blooded schemer from early on. She started out with several insurance fraud schemes for money and then moved on to murdering the men who responded to her lonely hearts ads.
