FAMED DESIGNER LAWRENCE MILLER DIES

Lawrence A. Miller, who is known for his Broadway and film set designs, died on April 11, 2009 of a long illness, in Los Angeles. Amidst his Manhattan stage career, Miller was known for designing the sets of shows for the New York City Opera and New York City Opera, as well as for LIZA MINNELLI AT CARNEGIE HALL After his stark black & white set for the TOMMY TUNE production of Broadway's NINE snagged Miller a Tony Award nomination in 1982, soon Hollywood was calling for his keen and innovative eye. His career in films flourished as he became the Production Designer and Art Director of such films as THE FLAMINGO KID, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, OVERBOARD, DOC HOLLYWOOD, and L.A. STORY. He had also done designs for a proposed memorial structure on the site of the former World Trade Center. A memorial service for Lawrence A. Miller will be held at his Los Angeles home on May 3, 2009.
