MICKY DOLENZ, lead singer of the Monkees, has inked a deal to record an album of the classic songs of Carole King, to be titled KING FOR A DAY, with the album to be released on Gigitone Records this Summer.The album, which is currently being recorded in L.A., will be produced by Jeffrey Foskett, who has worked extensively with Brian Wilson, and played on Wilson’s 2004 Grammy-winning version of SMILE. Dolenz always planned to record an album with her songs, “To honor her body of work,” he adds.”Is something I have always planned to do.” King, whose songs (“Pleasant Valley Sunday”; “Sometime in the Morning”; and, “The Porpoise Song (Theme From Head)” have emerged as signature songs from the iconic band, whose record sales are at more than 65 million. Dolenz, currently on the small screen via CMT’s GONE COUNTRY 3, adds several guest-artists will be present for the recording of the CD, “Carole King song’s have withstood the test of time and continue to resonate like never before. She’s a tremendous artist and again I feel honored to perform her work.”
